Default How much water do you drink in a day?

Honestly, how much water do you drink on a daily basis? Is too much water bad?

On average I am drinking about 1.5 L a day.

Default More on water

You loose 1.5 liters of water going to the bathroom. Adding respiration, sweating and regular body functions the total amount of water lost is about 2.5 liters.

If you live in a warm climate and excercise frequently, the number is even higher, nearing 3 liters.

According to the Institute of Medicine, men should consume 3 liters (13 glasses) of water per day. Women should consume 2.2 liters (9 glasses) per day.

Lack of sufficient water, dehydration can lead to the following symptoms:

* Excessive thirst
* Fatigue
* Headache
* Dry mouth
* Little or no urination
* Muscle weakness
* Dizziness
* Lightheadedness

Well, I knew I had to stay "hydrated." More specifically, I should be drinking about one milk jug full of water per day.

I try to consume 8, 8oz glasses a day. It's pretty easy to do cause I drink bottle water. Can't stand the taste of facuet or fountain water. Here lately I've stop drinking water after 6 pm because it had me pissing all night. It worked. I belong to a weight loss site and that is one of their biggest props. Drink Water.

Have you tried putting a filter on your tap?

They last about a month. I wonder if its cheaper than buying bottled water?

I don't really trust the filters to get out the tiny little minerals or the bacterial stuff. I'm on a well and not really comfortable drinking it filtered or not. Sometimes when I'm lazy, I'll drink it from the fridge which has a filter system. I buy my bottle water whole sale and it's dirt cheap. I get 28 units of 24oz for about $6.99 and it's deer park which to me taste delicious.

Bottled water is actually not very good for you. Often its tap water anyway, except by being bottled they don't have to abide by the standards on tap water.

A recent study found that many brands of bottled water filtered out floride and that people who drank these often had more problems with tooth decay.

Another thing is that many brands contained contaminates and even lethal bacteria in amounts that would not be allowed in public tap water.

something to think about.

I personally don't like to drink anything fish f*** in.

I use tap water when I make pots of coffee but for regular water intake, I get the bottled stuff.

Here's a link on bottled vs. tap, published by the FDA.

http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2002/402_h2o.html

Faucet water is kept up to standards by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Bottled water is kept up to the standards of the FDA, which has adopted the same standards of the EPA but have made certain specifcations more strict.

For example allowable lead in facuet water = 15ppb (EPA). Allowable lead in bottled water = 5ppb (FDA).

When you are buying bottled water (as in most chemicals - yeah water is a chemical) you pay a premium for purity.

In addition, manufacturers of plastic bottles (polyethylene or sometimes polyethylene-terephthalate) are kept up to high health standards by cGMP (current good manufacturing practices) plus inspection by the FDA.

Its true that bottled water can come from the same source as tap water it just tastes better IMO from higher purification standards, plus I get enough iron, calcium and flourine from the tap water in my coffee.

Yes too much water can be bad for the body. But you really have to drink it in excess. I'm talking keeping you belly constantly full with water that you feel you're going to explode.

What that does is it dilutes out the sodium in your body. Its called hyponatremia. It leaves your body open to cramps and such and in the long run can cause kidney failure.

Too much water is definetely bad. The reccommended 8 glasses of water a day is way too much. It's well known that over eating is bad for health; drinking too much is bad too. Think about it, it's not natural to force yourself to drink more than you are thirsty for, just as you should eat only as much as you are hungry for. Your body knows best. George Ohsawa, in the book "You are all Sanpaku", states: "An excess of water in the system can reduce our vitality, since this means a decreased ratio of blood; it lowers our body temperature and forces the kidneys to overwork." also, the food we eat contains a large amount of the water we need: "Cooked rice, for instance, contains 60 to 70 per cent water, and most vegetables contain 80 to 90 per cent water." Three to four glasses of water a day should be plenty for most people.
