Fist Crawling

Just a technique im going to be trying for the next few weeks. aswell as punching random objects around me all the time, im going to be travelling around my house in the style of a gorilla. Hopefully to work on my knuckle conditioning (we have lots of hard floors), my flexibility, my upper body and the fact that I'm quite tall and never adopt a low stance when training making low punches a harder then they should be.

Has anyone tryed this meathod and could tell me how it worked out? And could you tell me your thoughts on the exercise?

ask dickhardman, he walks around like that all the time. apparently he is an evolutionary throwback.

ok if you are serious what do you hope to achieve and why do you think this is the best way of doing it?

well constantly punching the floor is very nice for conditioning and they practise very low crawling for lots of martial arts. and like i said im too used to being stood upright which in my KFM isn't helpful

you will become good at hitting the floor, more importantly i think you will screw your back up. im not sure crawling will serve much purpose unless you are a soldier then it would perhaps be worth practicing.

if you want to practive your punches then use a punch bag imo.
if you want to build strength then do weights.

both will be superior to crawling and randomly hitting stuff.

This technique isn't for when i actually train its more of a passive thing when im not training, I do train on a punch bag and lift weights.

then rest the rest of the time.
train hard then rest. no one really does this kind of stuff sounds a bit mental to me. More importantly it sounds totally unproductive.

Are you talking about shadow boxing when you're just hanging out?

see i dont see the point, when its training time train, if you have the mind to do other stuff during yoru rest time then you could be training harder during your training.

i have a friend that does crap like runs up the stairs and stuff like that, i dont have the energy personally as im tired from training. i take the lift.

You've got to be careful with the kind of pain you're dealing with.

The pain of hard work from training is one thing; pain that comes from injury is not a good thing.

Listen to your body and be able to distinguish the two.

Update on the crawling. It can't really be used as a passive exercise as i had hoped, after a day of crawling my legs are on fire, :P its muscle ache, it may just be because im not used to it but i'm willing to give a few more days to the cause.

youll screw your back up doing silly stuff like this. why not stick to the tried and tested sensible stuff. this sounds comical.

You should train more closely to what your goal is.

If you want to be a better runner, you should spend most of your time running. Same with punching, swimming, shooting or whatever you're trying to accomplish.

Cross-training is good, so much as its not the sole focus. You say you want to be a better puncher, so you've opted to crawl like a gorilla. That's not the most direct approach to becoming a better puncher - if that is your goal.

The best way to improve your punching will be to work with a boxing coach.

He'll feed you the focus mitts to teach you how to put together punches, might have you shadow box (to practice what you've learned and get it into muscle memory) and then do some light sparring so you can put it to work in real time.

You might spend some time on your own hitting your punching bag to work on power and placement of your punches.

You might spend some time conditioning to be a better boxer - which would include running, skipping rope, lifting weights or even swimming.

Tom I appreciate your point of view, but i know that a boxing coach is good for one thing, teaching people how to box :P, and boxing has rules, the only rules follow is my morality. In a real fight im not going to be wearing padded gloves, the sort of conditioning effect im after is the hardening of my fists.
