Default Best Silat Video

What do you think is the best Silat instructional series? I've seen many by VDT, Inosanto, Terry Gibson, Hermann Suwanda, Rick Tucci, Bob Orlando, Steven Plinck, Maltese, Jeff Davidson, and many others. The best and most practical I have seen so far has been Silat for MMA and the Street (stores.ebay.com/AFMAA).

Herman Suwanda gets almost universal respect. Can't go wrong there.

Terry Gibson is well know for Maliphindo Silat from Guro Inosanto, but his vids are hard to come by. Get them if you can.

Also, check out Anakserak.com, from Dr. Andre Knust-Graichen's lineage. Most probably good stuff.

Guru Besar Rudy Terlinden's two vids are outstanding. I can say that since I do Ratu Adil and I also own the vids Not many men have received bayonet wounds, and he had. He's been there and done that. You can't go wrong.

Tristan Sutrisno is another great resource. Silat guru, from Indonesia, and again, a war Vet. You can't beat this kind of experience.

Good luck on your search!

I've seen Suwanda, Rudy Tanderlin, and Roberto Torres. The other guy, I haven't. Out of all that I've seen, I still think the AFMAA videos are the best. I will have to check the other guys though because I may be wrong.

I don't get it when you say big mistake. Have you actually watched the DVDs to criticize them. I actually have watched all the DVDs the AFMAA have put out and that is why I can speak on them. How can you laugh at videos because you didn't like the web site? That is like me saying the Da Vinci Code was not a good book even though I have never read it.

Default Tanderlin

Guru Tanderlin really received bayonet wounds. Please fill me in on the story.

Ok, first of all it's not tanderlin- it's terlinden.

second, I've followed you through virtually every fma/indonesian forum as you spam post the same sales pitch. You act as if you are genuinely interested in beginning a productive discussion, then state yeah those are ok, but you gotta buy these tapes. You then proceeded to act on another forum (martialartsplanet.com) as if shabazz (you) was some sneaky person who got a hold of your account and started promoting and celebrating your tape series to the world. If you have a genuinely productive topic to post here please contribute. if you just want to promote your product, head over to myspace.

Moderators.. Sorry if im out of line.

First off, Dr. Tofte is a white guy. Second, I use his computer. I do brag about his products throughout forums because they are great and his fitness products (which, some of which he hasn't released yet) have changed my life. Do I think that he probably has the only life-changing products out there? Probably not. So, yes I am promoting his products and I am seeing if there are other good products out there. Human beings learn by seeing, hearing, and experiencing. I am sharing my experiences with others and am willing to learn from others who are willing to share experiences with me. Now, if you have something productive to add to this discussion, please do so.

Wow. That sounds exactly like the conversation on MAP a few weeks ago. Sorry man, we aren't buying.

It WAS the same conversation on the MAP! Shabazz, you are not making a lot of friends out here...The general Silat public is a LOT more savvy than you are giving them credit for. We don't just buy any old video, especially from someone that nobody has ever heard of before. It's not impossible that you are just a regular guy with something good to share, but...and this is important...That kind of person doesn't do this kind of thing! As the old saying goes, "You can't con a con".

Guru Terlinden received these wounds from Japanese soldiers occupying his homeland. I heard these stories from my guru Ray, a personal student of Guru Rudy

Default nonsence

i don't think its applicable. honestly safer not learning this silat. it could get you in alot of problems if you ever get in a real fight. just being honest here. don't try and learn something which doesn't work. just because they call it a martial art and just because it was used a few hundred years ago doesn't make it good. look at the caveman we might as well learn caveman martial art.

so take my advise and go learn some real martial arts....

Silat is one of the only martial arts that has been used by native peoples to repel invaders in the last century. I have yet to be taught something in Silat that desembles a caveman art, or something that somehow is not applicable in this day and age. Attacks with knives, swords, sticks, or hands and feet have changed very little since the days of the cavemen, so if it works, I say use it.

BTW, what is your idea of "real martial arts"? Did you have something particular in mind?

Y'know, maniac, most of us have been around the block a few times. I'd guess that at least half are at instructor level in some other "real" martial art. A few of us have actually had to make it work when people were trying to hurt us. So why don't you get back under your bridge before we set the Big Billy Goat Gruff on you.
