umm ok if u want a self defense martial art i suggest that u pick wing chun kung fu its the most effective in close quarters, now it u want a excercise try tae kwon do because there is alot more excercise in tae kwon do than other martial arts.

Look for several free trial visits with several different schools in your area. After several trial visits it will be obvious which one fits your personality, body make up, budget and flexibility level.

also you should check out kyokushin karate if you want a real no kidding karate system. i think that it is the best karate in the world it is tough and will make you work for your goal. i am planning to go there after i get my black belt in wtf taekwondo. you have to be seriously dedicated to reach your black belt in that art. after 5 years you might be a brown belt, but the black blet test its the hardest test in any martial art, you have to defeat 10 black belts in a row in a kumitae. extreamly hard and extreamly rewarding chck it out. if u can take hits ( wich i think u can) its perfect for u if u really love to fight. also there are no pads of any kind when sparring, excpt maby a cup but thats all!
