Thread: Hello from Houston

First off I want to say hello to all..... so Hello!
Second, I am here looking for advice and help. I am totally new to martial arts, other than what I have seen in the movies. I am currently in a local Police Academy and want to further my self-defense tactics more than what we are being taught in class.

I dont know if this will help or not but here are my stats.

28 y/o Male
5'7
180lbs

I have never had any formal training of any fighting system or art at all, just a few moves from friends etc etc.

What Art would probably be best suited for my needs? I do know my biggest weakness is an empty handed situation, that is what I realy want to concentrate on, something with plenty of joint locks, redirection, I am not too concerned with lethal blows at this time. I dont want to become Mr. Billy Bad Ass, I just want to be able to hold my own against the average population.

Any Ideas? All input is greatly appreciated.
