    Fist Hey

    Hey,

I don't know a lot about Shadowboxing, but I know a lot about Tae Kwon Do, it is aggressive, offensive, and deffensive. I am a blue belt, and I have found the need to defend myself, I was jumped by four people and I left three bloody and one with a broken nose.

I think some of it depends on you. I think Boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are both excellent for self-defense. They are practical, good for conditioning, lots of fun, but also take a lot more time and effort physically than the other arts.

I know people each have their theories, but history is a good teacher. When was the last time someone beat up a bigtime boxer? Who won the first five UFC's?

Vale Tudo is a combination of brazilian jiu-jitsu and kickboxing. Another good choice.

Hapkido is a Korean form of self-defense, less physically intense than boxing and jiu-jitsu, but still practical. It includes knife defense and gun defense too. Also, at advanced level you get to use a cane!

Ultimately, Martial Arts is a lifelong thing. Try lots of stuff. At 70, your probably going to be incapable of boxing. But Aikido and Tai Chi are available to less physically abled folk.

If you have any questions, I will do my best.
