thefixer is on a distinguished road
Cool hello

hello i'm the fixer.

i have a yellow belt in hapkido- hurk choo kwan. i have practiced hapkido for 7 months. on an unfortunate situation our instructor had moved to help out a friend's martial arts school.
i keep practicing what i have learned and have been reading different books on budo masters and zen.
i am interested in persuing aikido as an alternative to hapkido.
i dont really have a whole lot of time to go to find a suitable aikido dojo now because work is keeping me busy.
i drive truck locally so i go lots of places in the city and am taking notes on where to look.
i hope to learn a few things here also.

HA! You won't learn much here... unless you can filter out tons of bollocks and/or read only posts from people who contribute useful information. (i.e. don't read any of my posts. )

If you're over in Portland, you should head to Boise in March 2004 to train with Alain Burrese. Hapkido instructor is he. Very good. Very good indeed.

Good luck.

Spanky

Default What Spanky meant to say...

I would agree, except for my posts over on the "Open Access" forum.

I can think of a couple of Aikido schools in the Portland area. One down in the NW section, another over on McCadam by the Sellwood bridge. I think there was also another one over in Beaverton off of Cedar Dr.

The top instructors in the Portland area IMHO are:

Guro John Daniels (FMA, JKDC, Muay-Lao Thai Boxing)

Ajarn Steve Wilson (Krabi-Krabong, Muay Thai)

Matt Thorton (Straight Blast Gym BJJ, modified JKDC, Boxing etc...)

Leonard Trigg (Boxing, Muay Thai, FMA)

Guro Stephen Plink (Serak Silat)

A Pekiti-Tirsia instructor moved to the area shortly after I left. If you are interested, I'll get that info for you.

All these instructors are highly rated in there respective systems.

Best of luck to you,

William

BTW,

Al Dacascos (FMA, Wun Hop Kuen Do) Incidently, he has moved back to Hawaii. His school is still there run by senior students...I don't know what it's like now.
