Default Perception speed and hand-eye coordination

What are some good drills that I could do that would improve my hand/eye and foot/eye coordination, and general perception speed?

Thank you for your help

My favorite way is board breaking any combination of heights and placement in a 10 foot radius around u should do it. Try using varrious hand, knee. foot, and elbow strikes not only does practicing this improve coordination it also helps condition whatever body part u strike with.

Speed bags for hands most definitely, and probably a tennis ball tied to a long piece of string will work pretty well.

I agree with Koto ryu; I use a Boxers Speed bag. They are very affordable. I also use the double end ball for timing.

Hmmm...perhaps tether ball? I figure you could practice doing various punches/hits/kicks against it rather than the average hits they do. and if you have no one to play against, you could hit it back and forth at yourself as hard as you can (and possibly get a smaller ball for it as you go).

I have never used the shock bags, but I use a speedbag, headbag, and a double-end bag. They are all a little different and help you build up a lot of speed and accuracy. You have to hit them from different ranges and keep moving on your feet. Circleing and changing directions.

One excercise I use for explosiveness is a modified squat thrust I think I made up. I drop down on my knuckles (knuckle conditioning) and kick my legs back (left over right). Drop down for a pushup and when I pushup I slap my hands together and land down on fingertips. Bring my feet back in and stand up. Promise, if you can do 50 of these a day, you will definitely be helping yourself.

For foot-eye, you can also hit the speed/head bag. Keep them at the same height as punches for a real workout. Just kicking a lot would be the best advice I could give. Get used to using your feet to hit things and you'll get better. Working a heavy-bag is a must, especially at first. You also need balance, so pistols and machine-gun excercises would help.

But for perception speed you really need to spar someone. A lot of it is dealing with your bodies natural flinch responses. Blinking or flinching in a fight at the wrong time is dangerous. Being able to change your flinch response from a blink to a 3 hit combo would definitely make you seem faster.

This is just my opinion, but I hope it helps

This is similar to koto_ryu's tennis ball idea; underneath my pergola I have placed different sized balls E.g. tennis ball, soft small & medium size ball, foam ball etc in old stockings/panyhose and hung them at different heights & distance between each other under the pergola. You start of striking one then another and the aim is to react or dodge each ball so you don't get hit. It looks like an obstacle game with all the balls swinging like a pendulum. Its great hand-eye coordination, really tests your reflexes, really works up a sweat when your determined and is a whole lot of fun. I've been hit so many times but its great for a laugh within yourself anyway and teaches you to move faster!!!
