Default Ninjutsu

I am wondering if anyone here is experienced in the art of Ninjutsu. I've been contemplating about buying a DVD Ninjutsu set which is made by Master Richard Van Donk. (Found on www.ninjutsu.com).

So anyone who is, how is it? Is it truly powerful as it is hyped up to be?

well lets see... a big fancy colorful site...lots of glory pictures not one clip showing any sort of skill to be found...hmm sounds like crap...it doesnt matter how many photo ops your teacher had or what secret @#$% he knows...what IS he going to teach you? NO art is a secret anymore...if you take the time to research you can discover the secrets of virtually any style. OH BTW the ONLY secret in the Martial art world is .....PRACTICE.

Tupalev,

I have some ninjitsu experience and can tell you that I am rather dissapointed that someone like Van Donk has claimed a site named ninjitsu.com. I would much rather prefer someone who is actually credible and not blatantly trying to make money off of people represent ninjitsu on the internet. Unfortunately, he is the one who got the domain first, therefore he gets the credit. That being said, I have parused his site, I've watched his little mini-clips, and read his blurbs. He talks a good fight. The clips when he is taking people down are good, sound techniques. The part where I begin to worry are the clips of his students sparring. In short, they stink. They are doing little more than wrestling like to little brothers are the ground. You will never learn ninjitsu from a video. Don't bother trying. It's a much more sublte art than the karate styles. You'll need to find an instructor if you are really interested. If you find someone in your area, go check him/her out and write us a full report. I'd be happy to tell you what I think.

If you have any more questions, please ignore the jokers, I'll do what I can to help.

Umm.. sure, you can see it. Are you willing to fly over here?

I must admit. The style I practice is not pure ninjitsu. Ninjitsu, as any art, has flaws. The trick is being able to hide the flaws.

That being said, what I practice is a variation of ninjitsu. Those who practice ninjitsu now do not practice (as is the case with most dojos of most styles) realistic combat. For example, ninjitsu people extend their punches, leaving their back leg hanging way out behind them. This makes it easy to off-balance them and the person doing the technique thinks that they're doing something great.

What they need to do is learn how to deal with a guy who keeps his feet under his hips and who throws out and back, like a jab. Ninjitsu teaches good locks, good joint and body manipulation, and as you improve in rank (5th dan and up) good combat training. Unfortunately, the Bujinkan has become largely about money and Hatsumi worship, however, there are those schools who have their heads screwed on straight, but most will still do traditional movements, such as elongating their stances until the individual learns to close that gap on their own.

All negativity being said, I still hold that ninjitsu is a practical art. The combat side of the art, it's precise nature, and analysis of the human body is rivaled by few other arts. However, it is up to the practioner (as in any art) to make the style street ready and individualized for each person.

-Hikage

PS> Sorry if I'm babbling, for some reason I can't think or type today.
