Nice forum
![]() Hello everyone im a 18 year old guy from Denmark currently studying Danish Aikikai. Ive been doing this on and of for about 5 years but the last 6 months have been intense and i intend to keep it up. However i would love to start studying a new martial art to complement my aikido. With aikido being a defensive sport i think it would be best to pair it with a more offensive one so i got both sides covered. Now on to the real question. Which is in your opinion the best martial art to pair with aikido? Im under the impression that some are better than others as the basic moves can vary very much from one MA to the other and by pairing 2 completely different MA's it could be causing more harm than good. Looking forward to hearing from you ![]() |

Personally I think aikido and japanese jiu-jitsu would make a good pair.
considering that Hirohei Ueshiba had studied jujitsu as a child, and than took many of the concepts from jujitsu to form aikido, you would be easily able to transfer many of your skills from aikido to the jujitsu. as aikido may focus mainly on the wrist and shoulder manipulations, ju jitsu will also teach you many more joint manipulations, throws, chokes...etc... It is definetly more aggressive than aikido but within the same family but whatever styles you choose I wish you the best bro, ![]() Jiu fu,

You want something more offensive?? Then I recommend Muay Thai, Boxing, or maybe some wrestling/Judo/BJJ.
But the truth is there are plenty of good offensive styles out there so you don't have to limit yourself to the ones I recommended. Good luck.
