JKD effectiveness

I have the book, "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do," and I believe that it is a very versatile and theoretically sound fighting system, but I have never seen a JKD practitioner in an actual self defense situation or a competition. Can anyone tell me with either/or experience using JKD in a self defense situation or in competition how effective is it?

you're labeling it as a style, and asking "it's" effectivness
which isn't what your supposed to do
if someone has their own interpretation of jkd, that works for them, but they get beat, could you say that jkd isn't effective?
no you can't

Yes. But as you suggest, Styles don't win fights, Fighters do.
I would bet on a skilled and dedicated boxer, Tae Kwon Do or Karateka over a poorly conditioned and poorly trained JKD practitioner.

However, in the hands and mind of a serious JKD man, the principles set forth by Bruce Lee are brutally effective. But, for the street, you must train for the street, meaning, busting the knees, gouging the eyes, etc and for the ring/cage you must train with those rules in mind.

I myself was ranked #1 in the world as a middleweight kickboxer and have survived over 50 streetfights and hostile situations with weapons and multiple assailants. If not for JKD, I may not have survived those.

Not that it's a big deal, but I've used JKD hands in amateur boxing and come out on top. I think that it certainly can be used effectively in competition.

Absolutely. Angles, Broken Rhythm, Indirect Attacks, even light hand immobilizations and beats & riposte's (fencing) are great for boxing.

And of course INTERCEPTING!
