Default JKD: Art or Philosophy

I'm wondering upon your opinions on whether or not JKD in it's purest form is an art built upon the foundation of Wing Chun? or is it a philosophy having no actual foundation to stand upon?

This has been covered extensively in the JKD forum. Please do a search and read those posts if you want to know peoples thoughts on the debate. I'm sure you will find 100's of threads devoted to this.

I'd say you're part right on both statements. It's an art in that each human being expresses it, and it's a philosophy too. In phiolosophy, JKD advocates continuous evolution through experimentation and experience. To say it is a philosophy having no actual foundation to stand on is going too far. Its foundation is the scientific method. As an art, it's based more on athletic science than wing chun. I think you'll find a ton of info with a search here, but that's my opinion.

My friend this is THE most heavily debated issue in the MA community and specifically in JKD. Ultimately it is all subjective.
