Good point. The dude is charging at you, running full speed.

How would you deal with this if you were on the field? Right up your alley...

like what, a running tackle or shoot, or running, coming in swinging with his eyes half closed and flailing his arms out wide?

The second case, attack by combination, first case, parry the body out of the way with your forearm and throw a knee or an uppercut to the face,or shove* his shoulders down forcing his face to the deck.

*used to do this in football, worked pretty well.

Yeah, some of the old fashioned football drills are usefull against someone running at you and most people don't think of football as empty handed combat.

Redirect him to a wall and keep banging his head till he stops flapping.
    • - If you hit him hard, where you want to, and get the effect you want, whatever you're doing, you're doing it right.

    • - I make it a point to stick around with people smarter than myself. If I learn just 10% of all they know in their fields of expertise I end up becoming smarter than most people.

a couple times ive had someone charge at me . i dont know wether they wanted to tackle me, or hit me, but in each instance the person charging like that was really pissed off, and prob didnt know what he was doing, he just decided to charge and see what happened. each time i was able to save myself by standing my ground till the last second, then move away and push my opponent as he went passed me, his own momentem usually causing him to fall.

yeah this is true.one time a friend of mine was showing me what he learned in football. he was showing me how to get under somene and lift them. it almost looked like some kinda suplex. they had to do tons of drills in that.

The reason why I ask is usually when someone charges from what I have experanced they are coming in full force to hurt and its not easy to just punch them and make them stop or even just kick. I wanted know what other ways you guys might use to fight this attack case it happens alot on the street and its more effective then people might think.

If you get knocked down by suprise and you're not unconscious, then you might have to grapple a little to get back to a better position.

If you see it coming, use good lateral movement to make the guy miss and have to come to you. Then do what you need to do.

yeah, the football thing works pretty well. if the guy is just swinging and flailing windmills then attacking by combination (i.e. normal boxing) should do the trick because straighter punches are likely to hit the mark, after the person's a little dazed (i.e. you didn't knock them down or out) try grabbing the ear and twisting, followed by a boot to boot sweep or any silat drop, and continue to twist...pain is a good deterrent. Fish-hooks if you know how to do it without getting your fingers bit, and elbows.

Also if they run at you straight with their head down, grab the back of their head and just start prummbing and tossing knees, a good (or even a shitty one placed right) knee to the chin equals a knockout.

If they're rushing you and they don't know what they're doing, damn, go ahead and be flashy, toss a teap or a round kick into their nose. Nothing says "**** off" like a shin landed across the bridge of one's nose.

I would simply side step if your reation time is fast enough. Otherwise just put your arms out try to control the head or at least the shoulders to prevent the guy from taking you down and to slow the pace.

Shoot defense from BJJ called a "sprawl"? or side step to your right or left rear and let him go by (re-directing as needed) you can easily evade and counter by dropping his face on the (hard hard) ground. He won't have time to break his fall. Stop kick if he's vertical enough will get his attention, try it!

"In all countries where personal freedom is valued, however much each individual may rely on legal redress, the right of each to carry arms - and these the best and the sharpest - for his own protection in case of extremity, is a right of nature indelible and irrepressible, and the more it is sought to be repressed the more it will recur."

You really don't have that information until the situation hits.
There's way too many variables associated with that. Are you expecting the charge? Are you surprised? Is it from the front, back, side? Is he bigger than you? Smaller? Fat, skinny?
All this information really does make a difference. You can obviously call upon past experiences with this sort of thing, but hell, I've had that happen more than one time in my life, and I never used the same tactic twice.

a well place side kick (assuming he flailing. if positioned correctly the most his fists will hit is your leg). And if he's coming at a fair speed it may knock him onto his butt, in which case I'd personally tell him he can't win, and offer him my hand (unless he has a knife or something in which case I'd crush his hand with my heel after he's down).
