whats the difference between gung fu and kung fu?

Spelling.

They mean the same thing. Since we don't use the same sounds in English as they do in Mandarin or Cantonese, it is hard to translate with English sounds. That's why you'll see it spelled differently along with a lot of other chinese words.

Some prefer to use the word Wushu. But now adays the term "Wushu" is synonymous with arts that are less martial in nature.
