Some call it a "Cold Cock", Some call it a "Sucker Punch" and some may say you got "Stole" but whatever you call it, the first blow or Bruce Lees' {r} principle of "Initial Speed" can be the deciding factor in a multiple attack situation. Anybody here ever been "Banked" or "Jumped"? The Haymaker may be your best friend. If you think you are doomed in a multiple attack situation then you are; change your attitude. If you are well trained and in shape...............you may be able to Sucker Punch yourself to safety.

suckerpunch not= haymaker
a suckerpunch is an unprovoked surprise offensive punch of any type (could be hook, cross, anything) a haymaker is a wide swinging punch usually involving a big windup. it's what you see in most streetfight videos...

somantics here guys, if a haymaker is defined as a punch with wind up that you can see coming then by definition the fact that you can see it coming i.e. the person cocks their arm back like a fucking moron renders it not a sucker punch, fight commentators call many unorthodox punches"haymakers" so there may be some confusion, in any event telegraphing your intent to your opponent unless your doing a.b.d or feinting/bluffing i.e. drawing hand back for haymaker drawing his attention to your arm then you either punch him with the other hand or kick him in the balls for example.

A haymaker is a big hooking punch, not a tight boxing hook mind you. Watch any old western and you will see a haymaker. A sucker punch is given to anyone unsuspecting of a punch. I could be sitting at a table talking to my friends and you come up and punch my lights out without warning, this is a sucker punch. You can definately sucker punch with a haymaker for beter or worse. I've been suckered and it sucks. Haymakers are easy to counter if you knoiw they ae coming.

Yes they can be the same thing. I had this guy at my school (academic not MA) who was a great laugh but always got himself into fights. He was a big fat guy with no balance and he threw enormous stiff-arm haymakers. All you had to do was stand inside of the punch and most the force was taken away from him. One time he took a swing at someone and they ducked and he spun himself round and collapsed in a heep on the ground. Funny as FCUK!

A sucker punch is also when an orthodox fighter leads with their right hand. (unorthodox visa-versa), whether provoked or not. I guess it could be someone sneaking up on you and punching you in the back of the head, but the point is....they lead with their power; you'd have to be a sucker to get hit with that.

We could fight about what defines a "sucker" punch? When my brother and I were kids he got mad enough to punch me on more than one occasion (and vice verse). A haymaker with the big wind up can still be a "sucker" punch. Just walk up behind any unsuspecting victim and tap them on the shoulder. As they turn around you wind up with the big looping "haymaker" and punch the sucker.... If you time it right he should turn his jaw right into your fist. And they even turn in the direction of the shoulder you touch almost every time!
But don't take my word for it.... That might make you a "sucker" LOL

Oh, No... You've got to be more discreet about it. Use an elbow or a head butt. At least it looks like it might have been an accident that way! No blood no foul, ball. That's good stuff.
