Can JKD practitioners compete in an event like UFC or Pride? This "friend" says NO WAY! NOT POSSiBLE! LOL! LOL! JKD SUCKS! He said that there was a fighter in the early UFCs and he got beat easy. I can't recall that!
I tried to explain the true JKD is about evolving as a martial artist and grappling will be included in JKD programs. I'm embarrased to say that he got to me. By that I mean, he hit a nerve and eventhough I'm a VERY level headed guy, he somewhat upset me ! I told him to check out this forum and see what true JKD practitioners think and say. That is the reason for this post. Sorry about the title The couliflower ear thing, it was supposed to go to another forum ![]()

I know a few JKD fighters, and they are all great stand up fighters. I even trained with a guy who did JKD and Muay Tai(sp sorry). They all lacked ground game and said that they were never trained in ground fighting. This was especially bad with the JKD and MT friend as he was in the lower ranks/Amauter UFC circuit. I trained with him for about 6 months just teaching him basic defense, chokes, arm bars, etc. and that made a huge difference in his game. Sadly he got kneed in the ribs on a fall and he broke all of his ribs on one side. So he has given up on trying to break into the UFC and is just helping to train and teach now.

JKD is the same thing as MMA isnt it? They are both just a philophosy which stresses the importance of cross training. So all MMA are following JKD concepts.
