I'm sure this has probably been posted before BUT....are there certain techniques that beginning JKD students learn?
Having been through the TMA system, I'm becoming more interested in rankless martial arts and exploring reality-based self-defense. Just curious.

Yes, you will first be exposed to the stance (by-jong). You will learn the four "ranges" and some basic footwork then move on to technique, probably a stop kick and stop hit... then probably some more footwork and then trapping. Not necessarily in that order. You should get the JKD "textbook" by Chris Kent and Tim Tackett. It covers much of the fundamental curriculum of Jun Fan JKD...isbn 0865681317 if you're at all serious about it. Enjoy. JKD is good stuff!

Actually no. I recommend a live instructor.
I have never seen a JKD video so I can't really say what or if they would be worth looking at.Anyone else? A quick search might turn up something... or not?

Ted Wong has a video named Bruce Lee's Fighting Method——Basic Training & Self-defense Technique. This is demonstrated by Ted Wong and Rechard Bustillo who is another student of Bruce Lee.
CONTENT 1 WARM UP 2 BASIC EXERCISES 3 ON-GUARD POSITION 4 FOOTWORK (quick advance quick retreat burst side-stepping ) 5 POWER TRAINING 6 PUNCH POWER PUNCHING 7 KICK (SIDE KICK FRONT KICK inverted kick hook kick ) 8 SPEED TRAINING back fist finger jab non-telegraphic punch 9 SELF DEFENSE TECHNIQUES (Defense Against An Unarmed AssailantDefense Against Grabbing Defense Against Choke Holds and Hugs Defense Against an Armed Assailant Defense From a Vulnerable Position ![]() I can provide it for you to download, if you wish. Actually, I dont think this is enough and it may not suit to everyone. You can also learn other basic technics in any other system, just anyone you like. Punch, kick, elbow, knee, etc. Last edited by LoneDon; 04-09-2006 at 07:35 AM. |

Thanks for the tip on the video. I don't have sound capability on my computer so I don't think downloading will help. I will look into buying the video.
Not to mention I dropped my remote straight into a glass of water the other day so I need a remote before buying any DVD's. It was a one in a million shot.
