Danny Inosanto and Richard Bustillo would be the main JKD guys today.
I train under Sifu Bustillo, it's about 70 percent kickboxing, 20 percent grapplng, and 10 percent stick-fighting. He's pretty lax, the vibe that I get from him is that he realizes that many martial artists are just normal guys with dayjobs who aren't looking into an extreme training regimen, or people who are there to compete. |

So...my 2 cts....I agree with Tim in that they all have something to offer. My main instructor is Larry Hartsell, followed by Dan Inosanto and Richard Bustillo. Its fun to get the picture in pieces and puzzle it together fpr yourself. Its an ongoing act of learning and growing.
Greetings

Dan Inosanto, Taky Kimura, and James Lee (not related to Bruce Lee) are recognized as three of the original instructors of JKD.
Taky Kimura has retired from the scene. James Lee died a number of years ago, which leaves Dan as the recognized senior JKD instructor. Less famous, but no less skilled in JKD is Ted Wong. Ted Wong and Richard Bustillo share credit in making the video Bruce Lee's Fighting Method back in 1992. Ted's path diverges from Dan's in that his curriculum doesn't include a lot of the SE Asian MA that Dan favors. Not to ruffle feathers here, but I believe Ted concentrates on the fundamentals--the lead vertical jab, the southpaw stance, the non-telegraphic attack, etc. Anyone interested in studying JKD really should take the trouble to learn from both Dan and his students, and Ted and his students, to get a larger view of JKD as Bruce was teaching it. |

Let's not forget Sifu Hartsell as well. While he was not certified under Lee he is recognized by Guro I. as one of the first.

I'll second that last post. Our gym is associated with CSW and Mr. Paulson. Get training in with the man every chance you get. I'm ticked Ken has not braught him into TUF this season to save the day!

One thing you'll notice is that although Ted has the movements, he's just not as fast (as Bruce Lee) in the tape. He's either slowed his technique down, so what he's doing can be seen by the viewer, or he's lost speed due to his age. In any case, the lead vertical punch, the stepping, kicking, all are out of the book(s). |

595 useless posts and you still don't know what Erik Paulson does??? And you're "probably" going to train with him? Why? So you can get a rear naked choke on a keyboard?

I just spent 2 hours last night with Jim Sewell, Jeremy Lynch and Lloyd Kennedy working with Eric Paulson's Vale Tudo group. They were all a great bunch of guys and very respectful of an old man like me. Eric is a great teacher and a great guy. I have known him for about 25 years. I can't recommend him enough. I you have a chance to go to a seminar of his, go for it as it will be well worth it.
