Question

Did anyone see that post about Dr. Gyi on the MMA forum? Pretty weird huh? I went to a seminar of his last year and he seemed real knowledgeable. Any one got any comment?
Thanks.

Question

White,
What did they say about Dr. Gyi? I did not see the post but am interested in the "thought".

I have heard nothing but good things about Dr. Gyi by the way.

As am I. I'm a serious admirer of the things I've seen other people do from Dr. Gyi's system, and the very limited look that I've had through others at what the man teaches has made my knife training vastly different from what it was before. I'd love to hear what was posted, and more about the book.

Some guy posted a link that states that Dr. Gyi has lied about his military record. Supposedly, this guy did a search and could find no records from any of the units Dr. Gyi has said he served with. It was a pretty in-depth site (I'm not saying I believe it one way or another). I'll see if I can find the link again.

this does not scare me or makes me lost any kind of respect for mr gyi even though i never met him. i have seen his students (not the recent ones, but the 1970s students when he use to have his school in washington dc), they are all awesome.

if anybody here had a teacher who is "undefeated" especially if he is a pilipino from a "death match", your teacher is no different, because they are all exxageration! believe me there is no such ting as a man who is undefeated, unless he never fought before. they all say it, they all have stories, so let is be! i know i am not the only one here who have an old man in the family who told you that we walked to work 20 miles every day (going uphill to work AND from work!). it is something old men do, especially asian men, and really espcially old men martial artists!

let mr gyi alone, and respect him for the knowledge hes got, because when he is gone you will not find another one who is going to entertain you with the same stories or has the same precious techniques!

I just dug up the info on Dr. Gyi, and on his background. Interesting reading, but I agree with kuntaw...Dr. Gyi is an incredible source of great martial arts info, and whether he made it up, or it was in the Bando system for ages, the stuff works. So, whether this whole debate is starting again, or whether it's just curiosity, take Dr. Gyi's info and training to heart, and you'll be a better martial artist for it.

Hello guys,
I just hate to see people whose number one goal in life seems to be to steal someone else's thunder.
but no problem, the Bando Assoc. is going to respond. the sad thing is that some people will believe the hype. the argument seems valid, however, they are baseing it on incorrect information, once that is cleared up it will blow over. Dr. Gyi is not bothered by it, so we shouldn't either. let me just say this about the man...
Dan Inosanto considers him to be a personal "hero". and he is the highest ranking bando practioner in the u.s. and 6th in the world, Guro Inosanto is 7th. and anyone who questions Dr. Gyi's desire to help the veterans should be aware that he dedicates all his spare time to helping at the local V.A. and donates all the money from seminar to the V.A. programs.
Dr. Gyi is as solid as it gets. end of story.
