TV, please restrict yourself to training what you know about. I have dealt with hundreds of incidents where someone has been stabbed. They only rarely stopped fighting. To say being cut will put you into shock is as valid as saying banging your head will result in death. Can happen, but rarely does.
And running off is an appalling method. There are so many things wrong with it, including the obvious. Karl Tanswell himself rejects it and does a demo where he gives one student a demo knife and asks the other to run off. Guess who gets caught every time? And who here would run away if he was with his elderly mother? Oh yes. You would. Mike, nope. I don't think that knife defence is impossible. Not at all. But this "cut and you're in shock" thing is just plain wrong in the majority of cases. |

If we all did that, then none of us would learn anything.

YOU made the comment. YOU deal with the consequence. In the meantime, you missed out on posting your reply to various issues and quoted posts. Why is that? |

Is in not your obligation as a student to test the theories and sometimes statements of the authority figure teaching it? There are far too many survivors of both gunshot wounds and knife attacks to accept the title of this thread as a fact. To do so is pure blindness. I will not argue that distance is your safest bet but it is not always an option. Chances are good that most of your options will be eliminated by design (intent and timing). If you accept that it is impossible to defend yourself from a knifer you are already defeated...

While I'll agree that being attacked my a knife would be my last choice, right after sharks. I'd like to think that with the right mix of skill, luck and the ability to keep a cool head, I'd be able to survive both. Hope I never have to find out though.

On a more serious note to anyone who holds the trust of students, please advise them that empty hand against a blade, or gun, is not an easy tactic. And it is best avoided if at all possible. Jet Lee and jackie chan make it look all to simple.

This problem of facing weapons is not new... The solution now as always is educating oneself with the tactics and techniques used by those who prey on other people.

Do I?
Save the "I do" for the wedding. You're trying to get someone to say Vu is full of shit? His silat sucks? He doesn't know what he's talking about? If it brings anyone a slight idea of what a knife can do I take my hat off to the guy. If it inspires just one so called "artist" to learn something that saves a life... His demo has helped.
