Often the most vociferous, are those with the least to say. Forum Mod Mike Brewer trained with Paul Vunak. Glad you enjoyed the clip. |

No such thing as "impossible"... Of course the odds may favor the guy with the knife and THAT'S why he's using it.

I'm still amazed at Vunak's bongo playing abilities...
The pistol draw vs. knife attack was interesting as was Vunak's demo.

I totally reject Paul's premise that you will go into shock and have about three seconds after taking a cut. Time after time I have seen that this is not true.
To be honst a great many people report that they DIDN'T EVEN KNOW they were stabbed until after the fight. And these are people stabbed in the torso, even with vital organs being punctured. Adrenaline, aloong with a lack of knowledge of what is happening, often gets people through. A few short weeks ago I was first at the scene of a multiple stabbing incident. One guys was stabbed 6 times before he went down and, even then, there were two other protagonists smashing him about the head with hands and a bottle. ps - Kudos to TV for ass kissing the Mods again by finding footage of one of them in action. pps - why does Paul V feel the need to platy the drums? |

Which mod is in action? That's Paul Vunak! btw. The clip is showing cuts to the forearm. You should really read up on the radial artery, before showing your ignorance. Last edited by Troll Virus; 04-13-2007 at 05:28 AM. |

Thai Bri I agree with what your saying. I've seen knife attacks and heard some nasty stories about knife attacks and more often than not the guy who gets stabbed says (if he survived) that he didn't even realize until after the fight. I don't think that Paul Vunak is entirely wrong in what he's saying. If you do get cut across an artery then your body can shut itself down frighteningly quickly. Knife fighting is very dangerous and obviously best avoided but its not impossible. Troll virus your attitude is one of the worst I have ever encountered, you come across as being very rude and very arrogant, learn a little grace.

Granted, I've never been laid open by a knife terribly badly, but I've been stabbed and slashed before and I not only didn't go into shock, in one case, I didn't even notice the wound until significantly after it had happened. Pain wasn't what tipped me off, but the blood squishing around in my boot. Actually, of three stab wounds and two slashes, the only ones I really felt during the engagements were the slashes, and they were not nearly as dangerous.
Still, having been in several encounters with an armed opponent and having survived all of them, I would encourage some people to reconsider the "impossible" nature of such scenarios. It is possible to win (read: survive) a knife encounter. People do it all the time, myself included. I am not talking about encounters I've read about, or stories people have told me. I'm talking about personal experience, firsthand. If you accept that a knife is a tool and you understand how it can (and likely will) be used against you, you can train for it just like anything else. It certainly doesn't make it the preferred method of dealing with a knife, but as life has taught me several times over - we don't always get the choice. To all those who like to think it's impossible, I am curious... What do you plan to do if you're ever faced with a blade and you can't just run away? Give up because it's impossible? |

I've trained Karl Tanswells S.T.A.B program, but yeah, first option; run like Carl Lewis being chased by a Cheetah (shreiking like a little girl). |
