I don't think saying something is a certain range limits you only to the range. Only that, that is the range when the tool becomes effective.

trapping isn't a long range tactic, so you are in kicking and boxing range before you are in trapping range. You are in trapping range before you are in clinch range, and grappling range.

It doesn't mean you can't kick in trapping range I do that all the time.

But I don't grapple from kicking range.

i.m.h.o.
if you are speaking about a non boxing person blocking or parrying my jab the point is just as valid blocking=exposure
parrying=openig up your guard too much
the catch is much better in boxing, mma and self defense
I thank you for your thoughfulness in your response as i really just want this question answered once and for all
so you cant see the point of inside and outside parrying of the jab, its a waste of time then?

kseer, dont worry about which ones better. You the person is the one who is important.Learn the art but develop your critical mind to way up what 'you' think what will work.Test yourself and your ideas to make the 'art' work for YOU.
As to trapping,if your talking about Wing Chun/Jun Fan style,I've had one or two moments where simple trap worked, but I dont believe in compound trapping because you need a compliant person.Doesnt happen in a confrontation.Trapping as a range is,to me,clinch range, standing grappling, whatever.Holding and striking intermixed.
In a fight your hitiing hitting hitting and maybe he blocks at one moment, get the block out of the way and keep hitting.Thats what the traps for.

All this "they trap in boxing" stuff is nonsense. Just like the "they trap in grappling" that is seen in otyher threads.

WC and JKD engage in all kinds of what I call "fancy" trapping. Us himans only have 2 arms, and can only move them incertain ways. Boxers and/grapplers using their own arms that occasionally clang together does NOT mean they are trapping.

there are some arm holds and manipulations in boxing, such as pulling the arm out to make a shovel hook to the body, i dont really think you could call this trapping but i think this is what they refer to when people say that boxing contains trapping as well..

Smile Fighting Zombies...

.02 cents from the brain dead for ya?

In my experience it seems that nearly half the time there is some attempt at an attachment. It might be a push or a shove or it might be some straight arm charge to get a grip. It is not uncommon to hold with one hand and pound with the other (or stab)

These slower types of attacks where the attacker (opponent) "gives" you his apendages sets up all manner of counter options that include various traps.

It's not that complicated to redirect force or move your body into a position of advantage.

Drilling just gives you a "feel" for it.

no, i see you don't utilize it but that does'nt mean it does'nt work, which is the impression i get from your posts

get into a close quarter scuffle with someone who can trap and you'll see how ineffective it is
