But I am pretty confident in saying everyone has their pain threshold. Now, my pain threshold could possibly be less than yours and Thai Bri's [shrug]. That's something I can't readily know just from an online forum.

I think though, just as there are different levels of force and intent thrown in a punch, the same applies to biting. I was interpreting Vunak's video clip to suggest that in a life or death situation one bite with the force and intent to *disfigure*. I have a difficult time imagining someone with a chunk bitten out of their cheek becoming rapidly filled with greater morale and "fight" in them. Now, for the mentally ill... I'm not so sure about, they might just go berserk.
Transcript of Vunak Enigma tape: “So, what you want to do is hang for about, oom, five to ten seconds – that’ll be sufficient in removing half of his face….So when you’re here (explodes into a vicious biting attack mock) and then you let em pop up to here (rapidly sits up) now I just sit up, and I thrust my hip, and continue to bite again (explodes into tearing into the guy once more)! Right back where you started from; the nightmare isn’t over…. It’s just beginning…

What Vunak is describing is to attack the way a pitbull or some other crazed animal would attack, latch on, tear into the bite, come back again if somehow broken loose from…It’s an ugly, crazed, continuous, tearing back and forth attack, not just a bite. I wholeheartedly agree.

Compare it to this attack. The dog clamps down, tears into the bite, is beaten off, comes back in.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...69842844016914

By the way, here’s a point were looking into. Similar situation, yet on the 2nd attack the dog backs off when confronted once more by the person that seriously injured it in causing it to back off in the first place.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0

I bring this point up because, on two separate occasions, when attacked by dogs, my counter attack (luck on my part) was aparrently sufficient enough to cause them to back up! In one incident, the dog was about to come at me once more, growled, then took off! As if it were feeling, "Mother f**r, you got lucky this time...," or something. The dog in this 2nd clip is like that, on it's return attack it's aif it feels, "Nope, don't wanna mess with you again!," as it backs up!

In my own other encounter here, the dog hesitated on it's 2nd attempt - long enough for it’s owner to call it off. I'd say it might go the same when torn into by a human being - a vicious long counterattack causing the other individual to let go, etc.

I guess what we might want to be discussing though is how to handle, prepare, train for “biting” encounters, etc – on both the receiving and the dishing out end.

Just a thought...

from what i saw in the clip, the biting is nothing more than to create space, which can allow you the opportunity to do something else.

Hey, I found the actual "wax on, wax off" form. What a fake that Pat Morita is. The form is actually Chinese - is NOTHING sacred!

I am no expert on this, but it seems to me that there is a big difference between pain and shock. It is possible to shock an opponent such that he simply can not come back for more. This happened once to me when I was a teenager. The blow to the side of my head left me on the ground with bells ringing in my ears. I was conscious, But I physically could not get up.

Pain is another story. It incites us to immediate action. One person might react by fleeing, that guy is not a serious enough opponent to require biting in the first place.

A more serious opponent will receive the pain and take drastic action against you.

Of course one must do what one must do, but leave biting for the last resort in a life and death situation. Otherwise you could easily turn a simple fight into a life and death struggle.

Just my opinion, but if you bite me, you had better get away clean and make sure no one know your address.

Let's hope BJ Penn doesn't become a violent criminal.

BTW, if you find yourself in an MMA style dual of fisticuffs, then you're pretty stupid. Self defense and fighting overlap, but are fundamentally different.

BTW if you are fighting at all outside of a ring, and it is not for defense, then it is you who are stupid.

Here in the US of A, any confrontation can lead to a life and death strugle and the possable use of fire arms. You boys in the UK may not face as many guns, but I dare say that the caracters are just as dangerous.

In my opinion, real JKD to to serious in its aproach to personal combat to be used for any type of "sporting" fun.

Gee, I don't know, when I was in grammer school I knew this kid who would bite his own hand as he launched an attack. True story. I guess it was his way of doing that thing Curly from the 3 Stooges does when he's hopping mad. He was a great kid though. Generous, yet tough as nails.

Great points, on your part, though.

Hey Wright, took a look at your web-site. Nice! You look as tough as your words can sometimes be.... (no offense intended, tough guy).

Watch it with that one, Hap, though I fully agree, some may take that as the cop out they foolishly accuse Lee of.

Liberty,

Its nice that you like my website, but this isn't a social call. Please don't drag my name into your posts, you and I view things very differently so don't associate me as your friend or make fun of me.

This forum already has great moderators in Mr Brewer, Excessive and Mr Mousel, so stop laying down boundaries and guidelines for people - you've been here 5 mins.

It always seems like I'm busting your balls, and you sarcasticly label me as a "tough guy" because I'm not afraid of unpopular speech. You seem like a nice guy, but as I have said before you maybe need to grow up and experience some of the borrowed wisdom in your posts.

No offence, tough guy.

MW. Don’t take yourself so seriously. Why don’t you give Liberty and the rest of us who are not in your little click a break.
