I teach this techniques as a self defense method to my kids program. I like it because it has the element of covering and protecting yourself epsecially when you are cornered. I have my kids crazy monkey and move forward to find a safer clinch position so that they can control the strikes without striking back themselves.

Hey Strawberry Brewer Cake why don't you take that sensitive side of yourself and rub Vick's Vaporub all over it, dip it in gasoline and light it on fire so we can actually see the warm, humble guy we all hope you'll be. The list is actually not your's at all you friggin plagerizing sycophant, Paul Vunak has about 5 million DVD's with that unoriginal progression you lay claim to!
. I agree the list may seem a bit trite, merely trying to illustrate exactly what the end goal is: Hit more often with more effect than the other guy hits us back! Good little beginner cover up so Master may hit you!!!

#1 Quinton Jackson wasn't doing Crazy Monkey. He was covering up.
#2 the clip that started the thread is just a short part of a seminar DVD that I personally enjoyed. Its no where near the best stand up instructional that I have but it is still pretty good. #3 I may not use all that much from the DVD in my own game, however limited it may be, but there is good material there . . . and yes, I had a certain instructor in Colorado who could teach circles around Rodney King but that is a completely different story.

[quote=Mike Brewer;292710](read: pointing out the obvious) that you were just restating what I had already posted. I apologize also that my doing it so much more eloquently than you did made your inadequacies more obvious to you. QUOTE]
You and the Clinton's must have gone to the same finishing school for eloquence you pompous plagerizing malcontent. Just because no one here will call you on your obvious lack of original material, don't get all sideways with me. First) your list is about as unique as Jessica Simpson's tits ( I got IT on Ebabe!) and B) I merely echo some of the same principles and get turned on like a 3 year old infant pulling the family Pit Bull's tail. Would you like a side of French Cries to go with your Wah Burger Mystic BrewHAh or is the use of that no plageristic enough for you?God Bless America, I love it when a guy rips off somebody elses stuff, labels it as his original idea, then attacks another poster for "COPYING MY STUFF". Long live the overly sensitive! ![]()

From there you build up a classic boxers guard - but they can always fall back on the crazy monkey position if they get mobbed. It gets criticized a lot by people who think it is the sole way we fight. We don't. Its just the defensive core we fall back to.. And a great way to teach a newbie to keep his head from getting nailed by bombs from a larger opponent.

here my 1/2 cents im a sbs guy(kinda) the way aaron little explained it to me when he showed me is that the guy who created it(king i think) says if u use it in a boxing match you wont win but you wont get hurt. aaron uses it as a progression to teach people how to counter punches- if you show a person a pat the first day they may-probably will-paw and cross the center cause theyre afraid of getting hit- after crazy monkey fot a lil while they get comfortable and can move on to the stuff you guys mentioned

Why can't I stop watching it??? It's like a moth to a flame....
For crying out loud, I'd fight harder than usual just to KO the guy and shut up that incessant noise!!! ![]()

Also, from the video clips I've seen of Rodney King, CM is just a component, one of many options. He presents it as an option for those who aren't particularly good at boxing (or not good at all). I'm just starting to get some power in my punches that would let me do some damage, but I'm just touching that. Before I could throw but it wasn't any good because it wouldn't make them cover up if they didn't want to. I used CM style covering up to not get knocked down/out by punches before I could close the distance and clinch. There's definitely more than one counter to punches, and not being able to counter punch doesn't mean it's not an effective defense. Having your arms protecting your face like that when you shoot in for a takedown is good to protect against knees, and with level changing you can shoot your arm out to get good penetration (along with the step) while going for a single leg. It might not be the best thing for a good boxer, but it's damn good for a wrestler or BJJer who doesn't have power in his hands. |

The thing that occurs to me about that so called defense to punching is that it COULD be used (or attempting to use it) to destroy his weapons. Peek a boo style elbow blows to his incoming fists?
Anyone? Yeah, yeah... Keep your guard up! (it's defensive...) Think about aiming your elbows at his fists? (offensive defense) Ever seen someone run straight into your fist? It's classic straight arm funny.

I'd want to be damn good if I was trying that. If you get your aim off the punch could be coming straight down the middle. Aiming to take it on your arm seems like a more reliable method of not getting hit in the face.
