Unhappy

Having been away from the scene for a while, I return to find the old Jun Fan / JKD Concepts Alive and Well. Or rather hidden and buried. From of the few posts that I have read on this forum from recent weeks, I am assuming that the subject has become too controversial to delve into.

I have also sensed some anger and frustration from off of certain members of the JKD community, through published articles and seminar speech's.

Recently one of the top JKD people (and I am not saying who), made many derogatory remarks about various nucleus members. Naming many people, and describing them as 'fat old men who never had a fight in there lives'. No love lost there, I suppose.

Less controversial, was the JKD book by Ron Ballicki. Which states that Dan Inosanto was the only man to be certified to teach JKD, and that Taky Kimura and James Lee were in fact authorized only to teach Jun Fan Gung Fu - Not Jeet Kune Do. If true, that makes 80% of the nucleus fraudsters.

Also, Having looked through the members list of the JFJKD nucleus. It seems that some people (although original students of Bruce Lee) were not certified to become instructors at all. Or did I miss something?

So what's the deal here?

BIG Sean - In a recent post you got at a guy who was saying that Jun Fan doesn't deal with grapplers. I know that is not true, but the lack of grappling would surely make a Jun Fan practitioner susceptible to a grappler in his game.

Yes, I know we could talk for hours of the endless possiblilities of a fight, but none of those techniques (JFJKD, Kali or BJJ) are worth a penny if you had some punk hanging off of your nose by his teeth. All we can do is train for the uncertainty of the thing.

I think this subject is a little too sticky to get into at the moment.

This "rivalry" has been brewing for years, only now, we've got forums like this to air our differences in.

The thing is, no-one will ever convince the "other" camp about how right or wrong they are.

I believe people will eventually just shut up and train, with the exception of the small-timers. They'll continue to bark on and on, forever and ever, et.al..

I also feel that the "real" fighters will come to understand that the lines are being blurred and will work together in training. Of course I'm referring to the intelligent ones. However, I feel that intelligence is perhaps the greatest "attribute" in the making of a "real" / true fighter of any demonstrable skill.

Perhaps we will see the two factions continue blurring the lines. I feel it's already happened to a certain extent. Only the ignorant would continue to battle on--and that would likely only be with words. It's time to put-up or shut-up for them!

Let this thing die folks!

I thought i would chime in here with my two cents.Does any of this bickering really matter at all? I find lineage interesting, but not much more.Who is certified for this and that is mainly just a tool for finding people in my case.If i found someone that could give me a missing piece of my jigsaw puzzle i wouldn't necessarily try to discredit them because of lineage or heresay.I think ability and knowledge are two factors that far outweigh the lineage or opinions of others that might have financial interestsor personal bias against a person.Of course i value the opinions of certain people, but i try to keep an open mind.It seems to me the jkd community is trying to fight over leftovers instead of getting together and figuring out how they can all add to a great feast. I know my lineage(and i'm far down the food chain to be sure),but find the whole argument about as silly as the old challenge of Steven Segal by the guys in Black Belt magazine.I relly wish they would just take a more neutral,open-minded approach and not try to take extreme stances.
