I think I could take him...

Could you imagine what one finger from his corps would sell for on E-Bay?
I'd be able to retire!

it's very hard to compare legends,
but I think GM Chang of chinese wrestling, Yamaguchi of goju kai, Oyama, Miyagi (not Pat Morita!) and Matsumura were pretty tough customers. I am not saying they would all beat Bruce, I am just saying that their reputations were of unbeatable fighters, the some way think of Bruce as well. Two other tough guys "with great chi" were the 1950's era head of Yang tai Chi and Wu Tai Chi. Yang and Wu fought full-contact against other styles. |

I think Bruce in his prime could have beaten anyone his size, or just about anyone his size, or any1 within 20 pounds of his weight. That being said, he could have been defeated by any number of big grapplers who would have been good enough, or lucky enough, to get a throw or a takedown before being destroyed by Bruce's striking attack. Bruce was a man like other men. Can a highly skilled 200-lb. lioness defeat a clumsy 600-lb. male tiger? No.
And besides, no one really knows how the likes of Yueshiba (sp?), Kano, Funakoshi, Hwang Kee, etc. would have done in a real fight against the highly trained athletes of today. Bruce's conditioning was at the level of a college wrestler or a pro boxer, and maybe beyond that. Certainly far beyond a normal martial artist. I think BL's endurance was equivalent to a modern MMA fighter. His power was far beyond most heavyweights. But, as the Gracies, Shamrock, Severn, and Coleman proved long ago, no matter how hard or fast you can strike, you may not stop the shot. Bruce was not Superman or Captain Marvel. But he may have been the Chinese Flash. |

I can't say I know much about any of the other fighters mentioned but I'll stick to Bruce for now. When I was injured, I found out about his use of EMS (electronic muscle stimulation) therapy to rehabilitate himself. They told him he'd never walk again. That's how I found out about it and took advantage of it. I don't know what I would've done had I not learned about it.
I'm also thankful to Bruce for teaching Kung Fu to non-Asians at the risk of losing his credentials. When you think of everything he accomplished during his day, under his circumstances, he was amazing. He may not have been the best - who really knows - but when a fighter goes that far to break traditions centuries old in order to set people free to fight and defend themselves full force without technical restraint, he's doing us all a service. So a man can be great for fighting for himself, but this man fought to teach us all. Not a philosophy buff, but I dig common sense. If there exists a faster, better way, then going after it sounds right to me. |

What do you think of this scenario?:
Bruce Lee v. Floyd Mayweather Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is a professional boxer and about Bruce Lee's size, so I think this is a good comparison. I think Sifu Bruce could take him in a real street fight or an MMA bout; I'm not so sure about a professional boxing match. Mayweather is undefeated as a professional. Both of them trained in their own respective arts, so that's what they were best at. What do you think? |
