There is a little controversy about the origin of this term so I won't go there ... what most people mean when they say it, is Filipino Boxing. This is *my* understanding of it (other people may vary on their understandings/descriptions).

When shadowboxing or working mits it looks a lot like Western Boxing and shares a lot of base principles with Western Boxing (i.e.: as far as body mechanics).

However, Panantukan also uses forearms, elbows, head, knees, shins (even shoulders, chest, hips) to strike with instead of just the punches (as in Western Boxing). Panantukan also uses a lot of pulling (i.e.: Jut Sao in Jun Fan) to pull the opponent into punches and generally screw with their balance.

It also incorporates some high level trapping concepts (though often not in the "classical" trapping fashion) ... but I won't go further with that because I don't want to get into a "trapping does/doesn't work" discussion :-)

In short, it's good stuff :-)

Regards, Mike
