Default Matt Thornton's tapes

Could someone please give me a overview of his first and second tape set. How do they compare to other tape sets like Sperry's.

I've heard very good things about these tapes and want to get them. I have a lot of other tapes and was wondering if there is a lot of overlap.

Thank you

There are several reviews of Matt's tapes at http://home.att.net/~erik.mann/mavr.htm. They seem to like them a lot. Matt Thornton has a much different perspective on JKD than most...I don't believe he teaches the wing chun and kali style trapping at all, and instead uses muay thai and wrestling techniques for the clinch. The guys at the Straight Blast gym train for MMA, and their techniques resemble vale tudo more than what you normally think of as JKD.

I only have his first set but plan on getting the second in the very NEAR future. The best way to describe them IN$#@&CREDIBLE. Lots of BANG for the buck, Matt has a really great ability to go over and cover the basics and bring out what works and what doesn't and he goes over whats good for what situation ie, a thai fight, a NHB fight, or a street fight.

Tape 1 covers "Aliveness" what that means and the standup game. Punching, kicking (with and without shoes) bobing and weaving, covering and stance, and great drills to develop them all

Tape 2 covers the Clinch, lots of great info on how to get the double underhooks/high clinch/and low, how to control a oppent, and drive him where you want (ie a corner, or down a flight of stairs) Randy Coture makes a guest apperence and teaches and demonstrates for arround 15 minutes, then matt goes over how to add the strikes.

Tape 3 is the Ground, another great tape, he covers the top (mount, head and arm poition, etc)bottom (bottom of mount, or side positions, etc) and the guard(breaking, and retaining). He shows the basic subs but gives GREAT info on how to pull them off without a gi and how to train them VERY effectivly with and without strikes.

I can't do the tapes justice with words but they are VERY functional and straight to the point. I would put these tapes on Paulson level if you know what I'm talking about, lots of details most others leave out and lots of high percentage moves.

Well you definitely got me interested.
I think I'll purchase some. I could always use more ways to train.

Thumbs up Matts tapes

In a word, they rock!
Matts tapes are like Matt, what I mean is this. Matt pulls no punches, and is about performance. AND he really seems interested in making people as good as they can be!

The tapes are the same. The best thing I can say about them are that they are VERY clear in instruction. If you watch the tapes, then get a partner and drill them as he says, you WILL be able to use the stuff sparring period.

People say allot of things about Matt, but one they should add is that he gives freely of himself, he really cares about making people good and it shows.

Buy em, ya can't go wrong!
