Default Grappling? Brazilian J.J

Did Bruce Lee had specific Grappling moves, or it alright if your intructor does Brazilian J.J as the grappling part of JKD.

Bruce studied a little grappling with Wally Jay, a California Jujuitsu expert. He also studied with Gene Labell, a stuntman and pro restling expert. I hear he was researching adding more grappling to JKD at the time of his death. There is no doubt that if he had lived he would have made more developments in that area. Especially in light of the recent nhb phenomenon.

Capoeirajc, If you intend on doing only that which Bruce Lee did himeslf while he was alive then Most of the BJJ stuff should not be included. But If you truly want to do JKD then you should study an train the BJJ stuff.

Bruce Lee had a certain number of grappling techniques he used, Larry Harstell had once told me the number........I think it was 26 but I could be wrong. But if you limit yourself to just that material then I feel you are truly missing the point of JKD and definitley cheating yourself on some good functional material. Just my opinion.

I think that you need to ask yourself if you want to be functional (and train what works) or "historicaly accurate" (and train just what B. Lee trained and nothing else).
If you are interested in later then by all means train with Lamar Davis.
If you want to be functional then you should try PFS, SBG or JKDU.
BJJ is great grappling art but don`t limit yourself just to that, try Wrestling and Shooto also. Check out Tony Cecchine`s Catch Wrestling tapes. See what works for you.
