    Grappler76,

Does anyone know of any realistic jkd schools in the so. cal area?
If you are ANYWHERE near the Los Angeles area, you have JKD central right next door. Paul Vunak and Dan Inosanto are both excellent as far as I have heard. Paul's is more of a stripped-down streetfighting system, but Dan has an incredible amount of knowledge, so he is not to be overlooked either.

When you say "realistic" JKD schools, what do you mean? Also, are you talking about "original" JKD, JKD Concepts, Functional JKD, or what? I saw in your background that you've studied JKD, Muay Thai, BJJ, Shooto. Are you looking for something that encompasses all of those arts, or strictly "JKD"?

I only know him from attending a few seminars with him. I think he's a great guy and a lot of fun to be around. He's an excellent martial artist with a lot of knowledge and experience to share. His seminars are very basic and straightforward ... and full of interesting and useful information and material.

I assume that his classes are the same.

I would recommend going and getting some time in with Paul Vunak i think you will benefit greatly. He will help you understand Jkd. But others are good also.

Well, if you're looking for someone that teaches Functional JKD, such as Matt Thornton. I know Jerry Wetzel has a school in Bellflower. He is a certified Full Instr. under Vunak, and instructor under Demi Barbito, and Tony Blauer. He brings Matt Thornton down quite often to give FJKD seminars at his Centerline Gym. One other big plus is that he has Chris Hauter (Machado JJ BB) teaching BJJ classes on Saturday mornings.

I am not a student of Jerry (never met the man but have emailed him), nor do I study JKD. But I have heard very good things about him. If I were to ever take up JKD (which I might), it would probably be under Jerry Wetzel.
