Default Training JKD, how ?

What is it like to train JKD ? What are the workouts, stuff you do in class ? I`m just saying, you fight your own way and how do you know what to train, etc. I hope you guys get my point.

Default i`m sry

I posted that a little too quickly without going over it first.

What I ment was, a Thai Boxer trains by training Boxing skills, Thai Kicks, Knees, elbows and clinching. A boxer trains with only punches, and bob, weaving etc. A TKD trains with a lot of kicks, get my point ? So what about JKD ?

Depends on the instructor.

Most JKD guys that I know start with Jun Fan as their foundation. Then they explore other arts to round out their "tool box."

Default JKD Foundation

Jun Fan Gung-Fu should be the foundation that you begin with although there are some who will argue that.

If you start with the Jun Fan before exploring the other arts then you would of followed a similar path as some of the most qualified to speak on the subject.

There are some people who teach JKD that did not train in any of the original teachings. They may have been "self taught" or trained by someone self taught or trained by someone who has discarded so much that it really should be called something else.

Jun Fan Gung-Fu first and when your ready, where you take it is "yours!"

I'm somewhere in between the Jun Fan Gung-Fu and the Jeet Kune Do. Some people think that you have to discard the Jun Fan, I don't buy into their reasoning and that is my way.

"Conceptually and technically Jun Fan Gung-Fu works for me" and that’s what matters and I won't discard it. I've added at to my "personal expression" a blend of BJJ and Trad. JJ which compliments my natural abilities.

Your JKD will be different but you have to start somewhere and your first experience with JKD should be with a good instructor!

Cool

Remember friends Jeet Kune do is not a style.
Yes in modern JKD schools today they start off with a foundation
of Jun Fan Gung Fu and western boxing, and Tai Boxing and Kali just to name a few. This gives the individual a basic grasp of many different styles that can and has been incorporated with the JKD.
As Bruce Lee put it, it's just a boat to get you to the other side don't have the weight of the boat on your back when you get there..........PHOENIX9

Doesnt even have to be a style you start with, you could just train 'the basics' as your basics and practice JKD.

JKD is attribute based training to augment your fighting ability.

As Bruce went beyond his then current jun fan// And discarded more of the wing chun base. the concepts and methods of jkd took root. What Bruce was doing and TEACHING. At that time was jkd. It was a growing art. Study learn discard. Stages of development was taking place. To say that jkd is just a path is very wrong. It becomes a path while learning discarding and finding. But it must have the core of its foundation to start with. In a real sence it was a style. Bruce at one point refured to it as a style. then retracted it. As it was not fixed as other styles were seen to be but alive to explore the personal needs. JKD becomes your per say style. .Its a singular action keyed towards the individual need of the time. Useing no way as way and the way as no way. This has the meaning. of no boundries are set upon the practionor to become stagnent in its learning but to explore what thewy are learning and keep the useful tools they find. ThenThey can go on to look at other arts not just to learn in them but to see within thwe tools they have. And how they will work aginst the tools of that art. If during thisexposer it has been found adding dismissing from is needed then its right to do so. To look at jkd as all things becomes fonfuseing to see. Look at each art towards its strong points to dicover needs. The whole art is needs not be explored to find your needs. or stengths you possess aginst it. To apply the concept of is not jkd its just a clear way to understand where your are going. If Bruce was alive today jkd would still be the taught as the path he was going. Then thru this you must find your path. More or less a personal art is jkd . But must have the foundation to start. jun fan// became jkd and jkd was jun fan// growing and learning thru adding and taking away. JKD concept schools are just keeping the door open. ojkd schools are keeping the path to the past alive to build off. Both have there place and you will contineu to have the chence to discover your jkd

I guess its OK to BELIEVE that you practice JKD because you think you understand the concept!

But you need to at least learn from someone QUALIFIED to teach YOU!

Roy Harris is Vice President of Paul Vunaks Progressive Fighting Systems and a 2nd degree black belt in BJJ under Joe Moreira.
Heres his definition of JKD in his own words:

http://www.royharris.com/forum/showt...hp?threadid=41

Granted, the definition of JKD is differant for differant people, but that dosen't change the fact that you have to learn from some one that is QUALIFIED to teach it in the first place.

Otherwise its just your made up shit!
