Hey Ryan,

As I recall, I supported your thread below on moderation.
This forum is great because it allows different martial artists to communicate and exchange ideas.

I could only imagine how some of the other forums on the Internet are completely overwhelmed by flamers and disrupters.
I really would not know because I don't frequent other unregulated forums. lol

On to my point: I do have one suggestion. Perhaps you and Tim can post a set of simple rules and guidelines for the forum.
I say this because there will come a time where you probably will have to erase a post or two or even a thread!

When that person cries foul, he can be shown how he broke the rules.
I have seen this work to near perfection on another forum.
(Of course, the regular enthusiasts are not the ones who cause problems anyway. It's the flamers we want to discourage.
Just an idea...........................

just because someone has different views than you doesn't mean that its bullshit. he had his opinion and so do we. i don't think he was trying to cause disuption he was just merely stating what his opionon of martial arts was. mabye he was trying to attack the members but iln the end we did prove him wrong(or right). this might sound a little corny but thats how we as martial artists grow and mature from learning from our mistakes and others mistakes.

I must respectfully disagree.

There is a way to disagree and state your opinion with respect and cordiality.
There is also a way to be a jerk about it.

Coming on to a MARTIAL ARTS board and insulting everyone on there for being MARTIAL ARTISTS and provoking people is an obvious disruption.

That entire thread for the most part is a waste of space, IMO.
Some of the guys did make quality replies, but even then, I think they may have wasted their time in doing so.

All opinions are not created equal.

Knowing "troll" tactics makes it easier to spot them on any board.
A troll can be sometimes difficult to flush out, but they all basically follow the same troll guidelines.

Nothing wrong with disagreeing. But a troll's main purpose is to start trouble. They put on the guise of "I'm just giving out my opinion! Honest!" But there's lots of tell tale signs of a troll.

you've got to realize that alot of people today are not always going to be respectful or cordial to you. just have to accept it. thats why you need self-defence. if you can't defend yourself from someone stating their opinion in a crude manner on a internet forum how are you going to defend yourself from the street.

never the less he was stating opinion. if you read all of his posts you would realize that he had some good points on the attitudes of martial artists today. even tho he was provoking people it turned out that he was provoking them in a good way because all of us martial artists stood to inform him that he was wrong and in the end i think we changed his mind a little. i would take that criticism anyday as long as i got to change peoples minds.

when i say that i study JKD. by that i mean i incorperate other martial arts into my fighting like boxing, kickingboxing. TKD kicks, grappling, wrestling. but i also incorperate Bruces philosophies and techniques like the straight blast, and basic JKD techniques.

Geez, I come back and you guys are still bickering like little old ladies. Number one. people are always going to flame. It's a matter of whether or not you are going to fuel the fire. Some forums are more tolerant than others. It is up to the moderators discretion whether or not they wish to allow it.
