![]() | It is just a name to 99.999% of JKD practioners because thats the way they were taught! Simple as that. For those who prefer to decide for themselves what is effective and what is not of the "original" teachings and may choose to keep all or none of them, then JKD is more than just a name. Sometimes I think yhe concept guys are the ones that take BRUCES words to seriously!! Who really is holding on to the past. OJKD holds on to the techniques which Bruce called Jeet Kune Do BEFORE he changed his mind. And JKDC holds on to BRUCES concepts!! So big F#$kin what? Who really gives a mad F#$k any way??? For that small percentage that holds onto the techniques. Its their choice and NOBODY elses. Those that hold on to the techniques were taught that way by somebody who actually new Bruce. Not like 99% of the concept guys who were taught by somebody who was taught by somebody else who might of known Bruce! How do you like me now? The original students did modify the techniques as needed to fit them personally and that makes it theirs to do what they want with it. You are all a bunch of fools if you beleive that nobody "from that line" can fight! I'm not talkin caca, I'm being real. Nobody is the baddest and nobody can choose for anybody else what is right for them. SO YOU HANG ONTO YOUR "NAME" AND I'LL HANDG ONTO MY "ART"

![]() | akja is it that time of the month again for you? ![]() there was a thread recently talking about bruce lee vs joe lewis. There was a quote from lewis that said bruce lee once called JKD "thusness" basicaly bruce liked martial arts, realized there were alot of them, then realized that each had things that he liked and didn't about them. so, being an enthusiast he wanted to learn all he could, but only the parts he was intrested in.(pretty obvious). He put all the things that he had found together and called it JKD. JKD is what you like. What technique you like, what stance if any you like. what kind of punch you like. One biased notion i have about JKD is, that your techniques have to be a composed of a mixture of ALL martial art. for example you would say "this is a tai chi move i just used" or "i got this one from a mantis kung fu guy" and not just "this is a JKD technique".

![]() | I know what most believe that JKD is. If you believe it is a concept or philosophy then it is a belief. I like to play with peoples heads. My Jun Fan Gung-Fu is actually behind the scenes in my Kempo Jujitsu, which is my expression of martial art. I use the word JKD so that people will have a referance of where it came from, That’s all. But I do get a pissed sometimes when people talk about the Oakland lineage and they themselves have nothing to do with it.

![]() | I think you missed mh point. Its a name, three words, 10 letters. no philosophy, no techniques, no strategy or style, just a name Bruce Lee had to call it express himself to everyone. I think those who have been training long enough will understand what I mean. It took me over 8 years. |

![]() | If you train and use the different tools of an art. Then try to step it out seperate of the whole it wont fit in. The tools of JKD are of fitting in not Ill use some kali, thai kicks then on to boxing hands. Thats seperate in aprouch. When you add or take away things must be put together and flow from each. Just making it happen. Concepts give exposer to parts of an art. that is considered strong points of use. but the person has to blend what they use to there needs. then it becomes there personal jkd and useful. extended tools. If you choose to call it different so be it. If I add to what I do I make it apart of what I am doing. I do not keep it seperate and build alist of different tools. I kept a foundation and built from there . I teach the foundation then add the blend at the time it fits in. Then if the student wants his way to explore thats great by me. At the end it just the person not just the art. And the person makes the art work be it jkd or any art doing is the key to an open door.

![]() | Don't worry Infighter, Akja seem to miss a lot of points. Many times a man prefers to believe only what HE believes to be true. Akja read my other post and still couldn't grasp it. First off, no one can claim to have been taught JKD. To receive a JKD certificate you had to be taught directly by Bruce himself. Only four individuals received these certs. Taky Kimura(the first) along with James Lee(now dead), then Dan Inosanto, and last was Ted Wong. No one else! Anyone who says so is a liar. Most of you are too young to have much knowledge of what was going on at the time. I was thirteen at the time of Lee's death and grabbed any bit of info I could at the time. I still have black and white copies of Black Belt magazine with articles, interviews and demos of Bruce and Dan. Basically, all this bickering and fighting and the claims to JKD training are the exact reasons Dan removed any and all material that he wrote about Bruce and JKD. This along with lame movies like The Dragon just f*&ked it all up. Just look at what you are saying--OJKD?? JKDC?? What da fu#k!! people. Come on, wake the hell up. If you want to take pieces from different arts and adjust them to fit your body style(attributes) then go right on ahead. Just don't label it JKD which is what exactly Bruce himself regreted doing. The root of combat has no name, no style. Each and every art out there has at least some or many of the basic roots. But not all, which is what Bruce was searching for. As it turns out, to Bruce and Dan, JKD just became an explanatory word for things they liked, enjoyed or prefered doing. Read my post "the meaning of JKD from the man who was there". It's a quote from Dan the man himself back in 1979. Geez.. people.

![]() | AUTO- you seem to miss a couple of points too. I said it many times that my Sifu and Sigung chose not to use the name Jeet Kune Do as I only use the word Jeet Kune Do or JKD because that’s how I refer to where my base, my underlying art came from. I’ve said it many times that I don’t buy into discarding what I call useful for me. My system isn’t JKD. You apparently trained under Dan in ‘70’s, good for you. All this crapola in here is based on “your right, no I’m right!” All I ever wanted to do was talk about the arts about my how system has its roots from the James Lee school but is mine its not JKD its just heavily influenced by the technical aspects only! But it doesn’t end there, its just beginning. There is so much I do that my Sifu will not do, that’s where we are different besides the fact he could knock me silly. He grew up watching his father train in the Oakland school, that’s all he ever trained in and it is functional for him. My Sigung Felix Macias Sr. was an actual student of Bruce Lee and James Lee, unlike you who found your way in after the fact! No doubt Dan in my eyes is the number one authority in the JKD community. But he nor anybody else on this earth is the final word. My Sifu was 8 years old when his dad took him to Jimmy Lees house to meet Bruce. If that would have been you or anybody else and your father trained you in his expanded method, you probably would have been a bit partial to WHAT YOU HAD BEEN TAUGHT! That’s what all the crapola here is about. What really happened. everybody speaks up about this happened and that happened but all they really know is what they’ve read or heard. There is a lot that came out of the Oakland school that the world doesn’t know about. But who really cares anyway. They only care about who got the paper. Not about who really leaned something and to this day still has it. The certifications, Ted Wong was Bruces last student and he himself states that he made it to 2nd level. The 3 others were 3rd level. I may be mistaking but I think Linda Lee made it to second level. Who cares. My Sifu and Sigung were not certified. Who cares. That doesn’t take anything from their art or what I have learned from them and what I have done with mine. Paper is just paper. My art is mine and that’s all that matters!

![]() | Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say. That's a sweet deal you got going on there though. Your Si Gung was taught things that others were not. Hopefully, this was passed on to your Si Fu who passed it to you. I am glad that you have transcended the ignorance(especially here;-}} ) and at least tried to discover what you have observed to be true for yourself. Did you ever meet Taky? I know he is getting old now but is a real good guy according to my Si Fu. I know what you mean about getting knocked silly. Whenever I got a little cocky(I was real quick and pretty powerful) my Si Fu would "put me back in place". It was informal yet serious. He always said my arms were too big for my chest though and put me on a chest program. Dan was cool. He was a short little guy, very calm demeanor... so powerful though. I remember holding this pad on my chest--he only hit me from about six inches away and sent me back flying--I bounced off the wall and he just grinned and said," that was nothing, your Si Jo hit a lot harder". Jesus Christ God all Mighty is all I could think. I really am sorry though, it wasn't meant as an insult..Just tired of seeing all this abuse, exploitation and raping of the word JKD. Unless they were there or have experienced it like you and I have then they just don't know that JKD doesn't really mean anything. This is probably going to be my last post because I have better things to do with my time... like beat up my grandkids up until they get big enough to kick my old ass ) Later Akja.

![]() | Insults are a waste of time and I do get carried away. I'm sorry for the way I react and that I let words from that people that I don't even know get to me!
