![]() | If he has any affiliation with the Inosanto academy then you should be able to find his info on Guro Dans website.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That is an interesting site swan. I had already identified him as an OJKD guy. But it appears the two instructors are following more of a JKDC system. I personally do not care about the politics of JKD. I really just want to train the basics. The instructor I spoke with says he is at a high level in Kali I think 10th degree. And also studies Ninjitsu and says he is a level one instructor under Dill. I could really care less about credential as long as the material being taught is acceptable. But it is nice to know what the JKD community feels about the different people.

I've read a view articles by Lamar Davis in magazines, and I get the impression that he wants to promote JKD (and perhaps himself in the process). Another interesting thing abouth the articles was that there were some bad things said about Jerry Poteet and Ted Wong. Steven | |

![]() | Dill studied under james lee in the oakland school. 1971 1972. left I think fall of 72 to attend college . recieved a packet in dec 72 that contained training manuals and the letter to train with others. Later that month james passed away. Dill jkd is a extended version of the oakland jkd. He also has studied wui wei gungfu. Which is brought down off the seattle jun fan///. kempo and aikijutsu. go ju from lou angel was his first art . around 1964 65 joined jkd society in 86 . Formed jkd assosiation in oct 91 I believe he has set up and worked with taki on the seattle area on a periododic bases for the past few years. was a member of the nucleus . He was not certified by james As bruce was alive then. And bruce only certfied inosanto. james and taki. But did train for a time and has linage to the oakland school. Pros and cons I wont go into. He has a few intstructors under his org. And about 1100 members. You can go to his site and findout more.

![]() | My instructor was aligned with Dill at one point, actually he was pretty high up in the organization. Then he left for a variety of reasons, and studied under another high ranking instructor. The result? I find the curriculum in the school much better now.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thank you for the input. This is the problem I face. As to my knowledge there are not only two places to get "JKD" training. The first is the Frank Cucci's school. It is very commercial. I do not mean that in a bad way. It is a nice facility. I spoke with Mr. Cucci in person a few times. However they DO NOT spar. They are aligned with Dan Inosanto from what I understand. But they do not spar. This does not seem to be progressing my training but actually stepping back from it. Also They train muay Thai only for the first year or two, I forget the specifics. That is before you are allowed to work trapping and such. This school also teaches Capoeria. The second group is the group Associated with Mr. Dill. They have two instructors who teach at this facility. One apparently just teaches JKD. the other says he no longer teaches martial arts and teaches martial science. All well and good. The one who teaches the "martial science" does not believe in trapping, forms and such and wants to only do alive training. Going so far as to tell me they practice knife defense with stun guns rather than training blades. I have not yet had the opportunity to observe the JKD instructor in action. So you see we have a well known JKD instructor under Inosanto or two instructors under Gary Dill who apparently will allow sparring and alive training. Two sides of the same coin. I'm sure both groups could teach me something. But I am also in the early stages of Krav Maga training which I do for free. Cucci's school runs about $120 a month I am not sure of the rates for the other school yet. But I can't imagine paying 120 for JKD/muay thai training and not getting to spar. Now hopefully you can see my problem.

![]() | I can't imagine doing ANY martial art without sparring. Its certainly not the 'end all' of learning how to defend yourself but it is a important component. Did this guy explain why? Maybe its a new school, and no ones gotten to the point where they should be sparring? Either way, your best bet is to observe each of your options, as you said.
