| Registered User | First of all, what is the Straight Blast Gym curriculum composed of? Also, what do you consider to be the best disciplines to train in? What should a martial artist who is interested in self defense focus on when it comes to training? Thank you for your time.

![]() | ALIVENESS!!! I have never met Mr. Thornton, but I have seen his tapes. Let me tell you, that what he teaches and preaches will open your eyes. I really don't care for Oregon too much, it's much too cold for us Hawaiians. The only reason, I would ever think about moving up there, would be too train with Matt. ALIVENESS, is the key. |

![]() | The foucs of what we do is the principle of 'Aliveness' as stated above. The actual goals are: 1- Have fun, and enjoy yourself in the company of relaxed, mature, and gentle people. (otherwise the rest of these 'goals' become pointless) 2- Stay healthy. 3- Learn 'functional' delivery systems in stand up, the clinch, on the ground, and weapons. That is, delivery systems which work when applied against the pressure of a stronger, aggressive, fully resisting attacker. We have found these to be BJJ, wrestling (Greco & Freestyle & folkstyle), boxing, Muay Thai, Savate, and Judo. 4- Provide each individual athlete with the space, freedom, and technology to develop their own unique and individual fighting "style". That is only done one the athlete begins sparring. Before that, no individual style is being developed. This is where the individual learns their brand of "jkd". 5- Realize that all forms of 'personal" or ego driven forms of measurement are pointless, and that it's all about having fun, telling the truth, and spreading love. That's it in a nutshell, any questions feel free to write anytime: info@straightblastgym.com My travel schedule is fairly insane, but I do respond eventually to all sincere e-mail. Cheers -Matt Thornton www.straightblastgym.com |
