From what I've seen, there are simularities, and differences.

I think WC was Lee's primary art before he began developing JKD. JKD however also includes techniques and ideas from other arts such as Savate. Lee would see something he liked, tweak it, and add it in as he went. He was constantly refining things, and there have been many discussions on just what his art would look like if he had been able to continue the evolution.

1 example of similar, yet different is the trapping. WC trapping seems to be more 'rigid', while JKD trapping has more of a freeform flow to it.

Check out Paul Vunuk. (sp) I found his wooden dummy video informative.

One of the largest differences between Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do is the footwork. JKD footwork tends to be explosive, drawing from western boxing and fencing, while WC footwork is a little slower.

Nice to see you posting here, Bob. Welcome to the forums.

I've heard it said that WC is very concerned with the 'perfection' of the technique. I'm not sure if thats true, but the couple of privates I had the instructor did seem to really focus on precise placement of hands, elbows, feet. (Even moved my foot what to me was a trivial amount once). The JKD seems more 'opne' as in what was comfortable, and stable, and functional for you.

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurkin a while, figured its time to signup and do more than read. You folks have some nice features here. (Loved the quizes)
