Default double leg takedown

What are some options when defending against someone shooting in for a double leg take down against you. Against heavier and much larger opponent with a long reach, the sprawl seems difficult to be used effectively as they just barrel straight through the sprawl, and they still manage to catch you with side stepping deu to their reach. what options are there

The sprawl and the sprawl with a crossface work well. It is all in your technique with the sprawl it can stop a bigger guy you should work on it more.

I totally agree with xero, the sprawl is a usefull tool,if trained well.Try it out against different type of fighters, with or without sidestepping and you'll soon find out what works.

Are you doing the sprawl correctly? Sometimes we do a technique wrong without even knowing it. Try it again with a friend or something. Remember to keep your knees up and off hte floor, you want him to bear your entire body weight.

I would agree with the sprawl and it does depend on your skill and technique. From a pure wrestling perspective I think controlling your opponents head as they shoot. I have used this effectively on the street and in matches. simple yet effective. As the opponent shoots you can control the direction, change teh force/velocity or simply power the head (1-2 hands) into the sidewalk or mat. Depending on your upper body strength I would also use a power half nelson.

alot of people sprawl straight back, and a stronger person could power thru. when sprawling throw your feetback and pop in with your right hip. as soon as you hit the ground cut an angle and pop inwith your left hip. stay on your toes and control the head.

thanks for the suggestions, that one about controlling the head seems useful, as where the head goes so does the body. thanks again
