I just got back from Europe yesterday (the trip from London to Honolulu is only about 26 hours long). While in Edinburgh, Scotland, I was lucky enough to train with Rick Young, who has an extraordinarily nice school there. As you all may know, Rick was the first non-American full instructor under Dan Inosanto, and he has certifications in JKD (and just about every other martial art) from some of the best teachers in the world. Rick and his students were very open and friendly, and I had a great time getting exposed to a lot of new material. I was able to attend three classes — grappling, Jun Fan, and Kali — all of which were spectacular. If any of you get a chance to visit Edinburgh, definitely drop by their school. It is well worth the trip.
Take care and train hard, Jim P.S.: Burton, Rick told me to make sure to send you his best.

Sorry, Filippo, but I only had time to make it to Austria, Switzerland, France, and Scotland. I'll be sure to make it to Italy on the next trip (first, I must learn Italian). In the meantime, you should come to Hawaii for a vacation and some training.
Take care and train hard, Jim P.S.: Does "ahi" mean something in Italian. To those of us in Hawaii, it is a kind of fish.

Rick Young is an outstanding athlete and teacher. Anyone that gets over there should visit him. It is great that Jim got that experience! Italy is definitely an amazing place to visit. I love going to Italy, to see my friends, to eat Pizza at the Torre Rosa, and minestrone at Visuvio. Rome and Venice are both amazing as well. Grazie per tutto, Filippo!

hi all.. i'm new to this forum.. i have read a lot about THE Rick Young , and would love to meet him .. whenever i ring a dojo and ask if i can go to join their training i get a great reception over the phone , but i seem to get a bit colder welcome when i turn up for training and they realise that i'm not quite what they were expecting , altho i have been told that i resemble him , as i have never met him i dont know what he looks like in the flesh(i'm 6ft tall with a bald head )... i think mebbe he should change his name to 'THE Rick Young' , (or me to 'not THE Rick Young' lol) then the confusion would stop ..... anyone know where i can contact Rick? altho i am only a beginner in martial arts , i think i would really benefit from the experience of training with such an experienced 'artist' , even if it was only the once..
Rick

The most recent information I have for Rick Young is as follows (though it might be a bit out of date at this point).
Rick Young's Centre Of Excellence 109 Restalrig Road Edinburgh 0131 5544600 rick.young@ntlworld.com Don't worry about getting a cold reception at Rick's school. He is one of the nicest instructors with whom I have ever had the privelige of training and his students all follow his good example. Take care and train hard, Jim McRae
