Default Escaping the rear mount...

I had this fast little guy take my back last night, and for the life of me, I couldn't get him off. He couldn't choke me, couldn't armbar me, but damn, he was stuck to me like glue. After fighting him for like 3 minutes in this position (at the end of a long rolling session), I finally just gassed and had to tap. Frustrating, but a much-needed wake up call about my cardio...

Anyway, what are some of your favorite escapes when the guy has your back? Face up, face down, either one. I tried doing a sitout before he got the hooks in, but was too tired. When he finally got the hooks in, I went for the ankle/shin lock, but he was too slippery. I peeled off one of his hooks and sat on it, then tried to turn back into him, but somehow he kept a step ahead and got back around to the back. Maybe I needed to pressure back with my head more to pin him down. Anyway, any ideas you'd like to share would help!

Jeff

As you know, if someone skilled is on your back it can be very tough. Did you try going to turtle (quarter position) then clearing hooks? How about if he is on his back, bridging high so your head is next to his, then clearing?
The sitting on the leg and spinning works very well, as you know, but try adding one thing. This is the one I usually try for.
He is on his back, on your back. Use both hands on one of his arms to keep him from choking you. If he is putting his right arm around your neck, grab his left arm with both hands, turning your chin toward his right arm to minimize the space for the choke. "Play" with his left, pushing down, out, etc, until you feel the resistance is right to take his left arm and put it next to your right ear. Now turn to your right and you are back in his guard. Since you have his arm tight, he can't follow to your back. Enjoy!
p.s. It is always a great thing to find a "weakness" to work on!
