I have recently been training and coming in contact with a middle ranking student in Ed Parkers Kempo. He is cross training in JJJ. I visited their dojo on Tuesday night and I was Pleasantly suprised. The system reminds me so much of Wing Chun Kung fu, with it's emphasis on checking and flow. What really got my attention was the pilates on the wall listing all the techniques by rank--from white belt to black belt. Ed Parker has his techniques cleverly coded in the form of animal names. Any body else been exposed to E.P. Kempo? What did you think of it?

Hey, it was good enough for Elvis! What better recommedation could you have?
![]() I'm only familiar with Parker Kenpo in passing, but by all accounts I've seen and heard it's good stuff if you have a good instructor. I'm a Kajukenbo guy myself, which is kind of a cousin art to Parker Kenpo; both the founder of Kajukenbo and Ed Parker learned their Kenpo from Professor William "Thunderbolt" K.S. Chow. Parker apparently had a gift for organizing his techniques, and is still thought of very highly even by those outside his sytem. Played a mean ukulele, too. ![]() |
