Please understand that I cannot speak for Master Cho...I can only add that many Korean instructors chose the WTF over the ITF when Gem. Choi Left Korea. Some for personal reasons and some for circumstances beyond their control! I have begun a poll on the Karateforums.com web site in the Korean Arts section. It is regarding politics (and is based on honest questions)..you may wish to check it out! TAEKWON! Spookey Last edited by Spookey; 02-05-2004 at 11:38 AM. Reason: content |

During regular classes you tend to see a little of everything;
Sweat pants and t-shirts for the newbs Basic white on white when you feel you just might stick with it for a while. Generally, V neck but you occassionally see somebody in a fold-over. Optional black trim on the neck after getting your black belt. Sometimes dobok pants, belt and white t-shirt, forthat summery look. Pink dobok (pants and top), usually worn with a slightly faded red belt (guess who put his belt in with the laundry )p.s. (No, not me!)

At my tkd school white is for a normal student. Blue is for the black belt club student. Instructors wear either black or red. I didn't ask about the red dobok yet, but I think it is for black belt club instructors. I think black belt club memebers should be allowed to stand out for our hard training. PPl that are not in the black belt club are not even at our sparring level. I wear a white dobok and it has blood stains on it. I need to buy a blue dobok soon.
edit: oh ya first dans where black doboks too instructors have a collar ranking system of some sort. |

Save your money!This is why i refer toTKD as Take Your Dough.Spent your money on leaning something that will supplement the art.I felt and many others in my TKD school that at long range Tkd is good.After the distance was closed many of my opponents had no idea what to do so that is how i fought in tournaments.I have a blue belt in TKD

It has been my observation that many Instructors sell students colored uniforms simply as a way to make money. It would be very easy to tell them "Look, all you need are a couple of white uniforms, or just sweatpants and a t-shirt. No big deal." But no, in a effort to turn students into cash machines they urge them to buy the fancy uniforms that serve no purpose except to enrich the Instructor's bank account. How is wearing a blue or red uniform going to make you proud? You want to feel proud? Work on your technique so that you are unbeatable and work on your character so that other people are proud to associate with you. Wearing a colored uniform accomplishes none of this.

. I doubt that is the source of their income. You don't make alot of money with a ma school. They aint rich so why not? Blue and red just shows that you train hard. Why have two gis of the same color anyways. I don't want two white gis. I am more proud of my sparring skills than a gi to be honest.

I like symbology. All white, save the belt, until you earn your black belt. It symbolizes purity, as noted, and the innocence of one still young in the martial way. Different styles have different thoughts on uniforms as do different schools. Bando students typically wear all black, regardless of rank, for instance. Jeet Kune Do students wear yellow jump suits, you get the idea =P
