You seem to be enjoying getting a hurt maybe a bit more than you should.
Remember the words of General George S. Patton; "The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his."

Its a good feeling to be able to shake off a solid hit, but the end goal of fight training is to minimize your damage and learn.
Contact training can be beneficial, but if your banging hard all the time your going to accumulate serious injuries and pains. Train smart.

my first time ever getting hurt in martial arts
but getting hit made me ALOT better in my sparring and me and him (him the guy who busted my nose) have AWESOME sparring matches now becuz i underestimate how high he can kick so i block and he kicks over my block sometimes and when i throw rapid round kicks he thinks i am about to stop so he moves his hands and then i throw a quick 1 right in his solar plexis and when i do a spin side kick he does a side kick and our legs go like ~ that and we both get hit in the ribs at the same time and he gets me with a few good shots and i get him with a few good shots it is soooooo fun sparring i wish we would have a day of like non stop sparring >< |

ISHWABGGOMFRYP (I'm sitting here with a goofy grin on my face reading your post)
Listen, I get it, I've been there...it is FUN!! makes you feel stronger, energized, ALIVE! Just be careful 'cause those little hurts accumulate and someday catch up with you. How'd you like to NOT be able to spar for months or years 'cause you got hurt? Like Tom Yum said, "train smart!" it'll pay off in the long run. I've said it b4 and I'll say it again - I wish I was young again!

Stretch properly/adequately before and after your session. Warm up gradually before and take a walk to cool down after. If its serious chronic pain, call your doc.

ok how many of you actually made yourself immune to pain?
well i did that a few years ago so when i get its its fun becuz i don't feel it like the TaeKwonDo ARC technique's none of them even hurt me like the (i know i won't spell this word right...) radial nerve in your arm you can hit it all day and it does not hurt i think some of you should try making yourself pain immune ![]() |

While sparring in class, my 5th methacarpal(sp?) was broken while blocking a kick...that woman was bigger than me and twice my size heh heh! I'm 5'0, 103 lbs...
I actually didn't know it was broken for a week. I went to the hospital the day I got hurt, they did x rays but they said I just had a sprain...for a week I was in pain. I went to my doctor, he did more x-rays and it turns out it was broken...I had a cast from 2 of my fingers all the way past my wrist...that was so uncomfortable! I continued classes and one day I got to sparr one handed(my sabunim made my oponent sparr one handed so it would be fair) Quite interesting to sparr like that! |

about a year ago I was sparring Mr. Corkern (3d degree TKD) and I was a green belt (5th up from white) and I ducked one of his round kicks only to see his heel come out of a reverse side kick and hit me square in the nose. About a month later I was sparring my instructor (Mr. Guchereau 2nd degree) and he round kicked me in the face, his toe went straight into my eye (not very pleasant. Other than those 2 happenings I've fallen down once, I slipped on the mat doing a high kick. ummm I've also strechted out my groin muscle, rotated my knee, and ummm gotten "turf toe" a few times.

Sometimes it doesn't matter how controlled sparring in class is supposed to be, accidents can happen.
I've gotten a few bruises from blocking, etc. It happens but those are not considered that serious I guess...breaking my left hand that time was the worst so far. |
