Default I just saw a Taekwondo demo yesterday at school!!!

At the community college I go to, they had an Asian Autumn Festival yesterday. It was very cool and very fun. But unfortunately I missed a samurai sword technique demo and karate because of my spanish class.

After I got out of class and ate some free food and stuff I saw that there was some guys in their Takewondo uniforms from the local mcdojo empire in this city. I saw one guy doing the Koryo form by himself like warming up and it was a total joke.
Anyway then there was the demo. It was 2 guys one of them was only a 1st dan by the 1 stripe I saw on his belt and he was wearing a MASTERS uniform!! The one that is robe style and the black trim goes all the way around, even the flanks of the shirt of the dobak. Also there was a lot of Korean writting on his shirt too on the flanks. I was like uhhhh....my old teacher who was a master had a uniform just like that and everyone else had just all white or the typical black belt one. Then the other kid had like a red and black belt and was wearing like a blue and red and stuff mixed uniform.

Anyway they were doing their demo and played all this awful techno garbage music and were like going "CMON GUYS!!! YAAAAA!!!! YAAAA!!! YOU CAN YELL LOUDER THEN THAT!! YTAAA!!!"" Like acting all wild and crazy and trying to get the crowd to get all hyped. And they were breaking balsa wood type boards. I picked up a peice of one after they kicked it and broke it with my bare hands. Sooo easy!! Their kicks were awful and then they did Koryo anbd it was HORRIBLE!! All jerky and not fluid at all and horrible technique. Nothing was right. Also they did one steps and they did them at like 1 mile per hour. Like the guy punched and like 1 second later then guy blocks, then one second later does a strike and one second later...etc...and it SUCKED!! I was so embarrassed because it was my martial art they were practicing. So I felt bad for it. Plus it was an asian festival and they did not even talk about the meaning of TKD or its history or the korean culture!!! And then they were wanting to pass out flyers and also said that they want to make a TKD club at this school. Its like all an excuse to get publicity. Dude even guys in the audience were heckling them and sarcastically going "YEAAAH!! WOOO!! YAAA!! YOU CAN DOOO EEEET!!!!" Its like the 2 guys did not have a clue how much they sucked!!

What sucks is they got to do their demo TWICE!! but the samurai guy and his friends only did theirs once!! And I talked to the guy with the sword and he told me about his training and was not boasting about anything and his actions were very reserved and professional. Whereas the TKD guys were going NUTS and acting totally stupid. Some older woman was going tai chi and they like randomly jumped in and were copying her and acting totally stupid.

The samurai guy showed me some baddass moves with the sword and he was rad. He also did muy thai and shotakan.

Anyway im just sick of demos like this. It totally defaces the martial arts and everything they stand for and make it an embarrassment.
Whats sad is some of the people actually thought they were good. But most were heckling them and the guys thought they were seriously cheering.

You should've challenged the two TKD guys to a game of thumbwars.

My master wore a white karate gi, does that mean he wasn't a master?

No! It means your master is humble. Wearing a masters uniform or a grandmasters uniform is a priviledge. You cant just let anyone wear it! Its like people who are yellow belts but wear black belt uniforms with the black trim. Its redicules.

And they let you stop mopping the floors long enough to watch it? Good for you.

Maybe you should have challenged them, in front of the student body, just to demonstrate how ineffective they would be in a real fight?

As Mr. Myagi said in the "Karate Kid", "Boards no hit back"!
