you always need to worry who you are getting in a fight with.
You never know what that person knows. I teach tkd, and train in JKD and BJJ. I've done TKD for 20 years. Make the mistake that I'm going to be like the other TKD school in town and you'll be in for a world of hurt. I've got flexibility, speed, and ability to out manuver a lot of guys when i'm on my game. Plus i've done some MT and a hand full of other arts. When I taught at the college I sparred with every student, I also did ground work with every student in the self defense class. We also did weapons work with free flow weapons. I'm not saying the class you are taking is worthwhile, but there may be a few things you can learn.

I agree with the thread starter. There are some serious problems with TKD. Of course, understand, some people can use it to great effect. Most people cannot. If you can kick accurately with a lot of speed and power, then you can overcome it's limitations. But this thing depends on the defender as well. I used to love kicking in Karate, it was easy to wins school contests with it. But I find them of little use now. Especially because an Okinawan punch actually makes it really hard to kick the heard, but real easy to kick the shins. It's not suitable for everyone, and I have no doubt, as long as you can do it without falling over (or even if you do fall over) some characters will take your money anyway.

zhorner I challenge you to a fight. If you lived here I would fight you with my TKD and you would lose because I would knock you out with a kick to the head.
ANd the fact you think taking advantage of girls who are doing push ups and looking at their butts because your a horny pervert shows how much you lack in the martial way. Grow up.

Its like anything though. he trained tkd but it lacked the full contact training,so he found muay thai. But that lacked the ground work so he learnt grappling. I dont think it was tkd's techniques which were bad, it was just the fact that the lack of full contact training was not there. Ive heard him in many pride commentaries and other interview, him talking about tkd techniques. so i would think he still respects some of the kicking? |

Dude I would meet you thre but you probably have your monkey wreslting jock guys there to jump me.
If you lived in KY I would love to spar. If I lived there I woudl spar you. YES SPAR! I am not really into a vicious fight with you. I just want to have fun and get some pointers. I am not really into to many rules. I would really humble you and show you that TKD kicks are effective when used right. Not talking about flying kicks either.

Hey Zhorner,
From my own personal experience with powerlifting, if you can max bench around 350 (lean body mass less than 200 lbs) then you are a natural athelete, 450 (lean body mass~220lbs) and 550 (lean body mass over 220) also natural. This coming from regular training with all three lifts and some supporting lifts, like the upright row, pullup, powercleans etc. If you can bench between 50-100 lbs above these levels, you're probably consuming a good deal of creatine or amino's and have favorable strength genetics. Anything still above that is probably roid territory, I guess.
