Go tell chuck norris that TKD is ignorant and ask him to spar with you........You are not going to learn TKD in a college class Go find a real instructor and a real school study the art for a few years then decide if it is ignorant.............

why would i, that would be a huge waste of time. let me give you some examples of why........back balance stance = retarded, anyone with any muay thai experience would break your leading leg. front balance stance = extremely retarded, your back leg is locked with the front one bent, with the majority of weight resting on your front leg, i smell takedown. to many kicks = ineffective, i understand that some kicks can be very effective, but come on, this is ridiculous.

I am sure that you could become a very good fighter studying tkd, but you would probably have to study it in Korea, in the mountains with some little asian guy hitting you with a stick when you mess up. It is way too watered down and commercialized in the U.S. to make you a good fighter. I find it to be highly ineffective, especially against the ground-and-pound technique. But it has improved my flexibility which is the only plus.

to conclude, chuck norris is a great fighter and could probably kick my ass unless he has no ground experience. okay, cut it out zack, chuck would knock you out in a few seconds.....you are right burt, what was i thinking. and i would not want to train in tkd for a couple of years because i know i would become a much better fighter studying grappling or potato chip eating for a couple of hours instead.

If that is what you have learned of TKD, then you haven't learned much.

I have never seen a forward leaning stance used by anyone that is any good at TKD.
The stance should preserve the centerline and be balanced. the only exception is for certain kicks to be thrown with full power there needs to be an adjustment.

When kicking the head should remail pointed towards the sky, the only time people usually do otherwise is when they are trying to show off or trying to kick higher than their range permits.

You don't have to go to Korea to learn decent TKD, but you do have to look pretty hard for it now a days. It also doesn't take years to learn, that is just the dedication level of most students now a days. Now to be excellent does take a few years same with grappling, MT, Boxing, etc.

TKD, Grappling and wing chun(or muy thai) that would be a decent combo that would cover all ranges of combat alone they all have limited effectiveness. just my opinion but it is based on experience

I believe that Chuck Norris studied tang Soo Do (or is at least know for it) not TKD.

He studied both along with judo JKD and others but there is little difference between TSD and TKD

It has a very good purpose and can be verry effective if it is used correctly.

okay, then enlighten me.....what does putting most of your weight on your front foot for an extended period of time do?

also.....how would that stance hold up in ufc or pride?

Just standing in the stances developes your stabilizer muscles and programs your muscle memory. In actual combat you dont just stand in stances you move thru them. you learn this in the kata and sparing sections. And for actual combat Its a good position to launch a strike or a kick from but you are only in that position for a split second. Its like moving a DVD frame by frame there are things that you just can't see when the movie is played at full speed. Many styles use this kind of stance probally more than you would think.

I can't really think of a time when the front leg is locked and most of the weight is transfered to it. Except possibly in the execution of a kick.

TKD stances- front stance, legs balanced 50% %50 It is a basic walking stance. Front knee is bent.

Back stance- 60% Weight on back leg 40% front leg

Sparring Stance balanced feet pivoted 45%, much like a boxers stance both knees bent. Stay on balls of feet.

Besides when you have proper foot work you should never be stationary.

It all depends what you want to get out of martial arts. I personally have stuck with martial arts because I like the thrill of competition and I have a passion for self defense. I have trained in different styles of martial arts. I have enjoyed all of them. I think I have took away alot of things that are transferrable to self defense. That includes the past three years I have competed in taekwondo. You just have to train with the right mindset. I have trained tkd, boxing, hapkido, and most recently I have been doing bjj for the last three months. I have enjoyed hapkido and bjj more then anything. But I have definately learned alot in the three years I spent in taekwondo. I still know every kata I was ever taught and continually train in all of the above mentioned with the exception of boxing. It all goes together it just depends what you want to get out of your training. My bjj instructor is more interested in training for bjj competition than anything. But he often has me show the class a lot of takedowns and pain compliance techniques I get from hapkido along with strikes and self defense techniques I learned in tkd. You have to be open minded. I hate to quote bruce lee because everyone does and it is so cliche. But you have to absorb what is useful and just forget about what isn't. My tkd instructor knows I have no interest in jump kicks and other fancy stuff so he doesn't bother teaching me that stuff. When my hkd instructor showed me techniques I was able to tell what would work for me and what wouldn't. I practice what he wanted me to in class but I only teach the stuff I believe works. If you asked him it all works. You just have to look at everything and decide for youself. You can't reject another martial art because of what other people say about it. Now if you have a preference towards other arts more power to you. But if that is the case then post your opinion and get off are board because we really don't want to hear you trash talk a style that we all love and have taken useful techniques from.

Stances and forms in martial arts are used to build strength not to actually fight like that!! And when you do use those stances in a fight you only are probbaly on them for half a second because your moving around so much, but the strength you built up gives you better balance and agility.

Only an idiot cant understand that. I would love to show this ignorant moron a thing or two but I am not rich, and dont feel the need to waste time going to ohio. But if he came here I would gladly spar him.

oh god....not this monkey again. those stances are meant to build strength; okay, i get it. in other words: instead of building strength for your double-leg by doing duck walks and jumping lunges, you fellows stand in absolutely retarded stances, ( that you actually use, only if for a brief second), to build strength. i can kind of see a correlation there. the only problem is.....wrestling and submissions can actually be used in a real fight against someone who is much bigger than you, where as tkd has become nothing more than a circus act, seeing who can do the most flips.

i would really like it if you TKD junkies would go buy mark kerr's smashing machine DVD. you could have a pizza and a movie night and all sleep in your gi's..it will be fun. watch the movie, and tell me what any TKD guy in the whole world could do to that. my answer is- super tkd man could do nothing but die.

also, i am in oklahoma not ohio. i would love to spar with you and i would be rooting for you the whole time to kick my ass. maybe then i would shut my f'ing mouth because i am an idiot.

you cannot kick without passing thru those stances.no matter what style you use and if you tried a double leg take down you would get kicked in the chin and go to sleep so what good would all of that rolling around on the ground training do you if you are laying on the ground knocked out????????
