******MODERATOR**********
Hey TKD_PERSON89 Consider this your second warning regarding inappropriate content in your posts. Tone it down or leave. heated discussion is fine, but constantly trolling for a fight and then posts full of profanity when you find it is not. Jubaji is smarter than you, he is staying within the rules and is going to get you ban if you keep this up. Excessiveforce moderator it has been so quite around here too. ![]()

No beef, and i'm a TKD instructor.
My job is to moderate the forum. So as long as you keep your posts in the PG range you are probably fine. I haven't had to ban anyone in awhile, and don't want to start now. So just try and be repectful of everyone. Play nice everybody

I had to vote against it. I've gone to many other martial arts schools besides my own to spar and have found that in the vast majority of TKD schools, people can't fight. A large portion of the problem is that many TKD practitioners throw kicks from to far away, throw them hyper snappy, and have no power at all. They basicly just tap you with their foot and hop back or run away. They have no stopping power.
When trained correctly, TKD is a good kicking are and a good striking art in general. Unfortunantly most schools produce poor fighters with an over emphasis on out of range kicks. |

I think that TKD is THE dynamic kicking art. It's just like anything else in martial arts or otherwise....if you have a good teacher, a willingness to learn, and are serious about it you can learn to kick with the best of them.
One big criticism of TKD is there's too much emphasis placed on kicking and not enough hand techniques. Another is that the some of the kicks are so dynamic/flashy/maybe eve difficult that they aren't applicable to street fighting. I agree that there are some very pathetic TKD schools/fighters/etc. but that can be said of any art. TKD may stand out more because it is very prevalent in the U.S., particularly as a competition-oriented art. IMHO if you want to learn to kick, TKD is it.

Well I don't know what kind of TKD schools ya'll have been to but if you come to mine you will find that most of the students can fight. Also we use as many hand techniqes if not more than kicks. As far as the kicks coming from to far away and being soft, we practice control while sparring. When we have full contact sparring you usually go home bloody and brused.

I think TKD is great in getting you used to Kicking alot. Whole weeks of nothing but walking the floor kicking gets you used to being able to explode with your kicks, like most people can with their hands. I took TKD soley to develop faster kicks, and to feel very confortable kicking in any stance. After fighting some great kickers, I realized I needed to become more proficient, and TKD helped me greatly.
That being said, I do think that TKD kicks are pretty snappy, like others have said. There seems to be more emphasis on fast kicking, than on power. The hard style also makes it easy to see/evade most of the kicks, and this leaves many TKD people weak against fighters with fast hands. As a kicking art TKD is probably the best "In terms of just kicking". To me, footwork is more important than being able to kick. Being good at both is very essential, and many arts teach much better footwork than TKD. So although you might not be able to kick as fast...the kicks wont be as easily seen or evaded. Blocking a kick jars your body almost as much as being hit by one. - In order to be a great kicker, your opponents have to fear your hands. You have to have fast hands and KO punching power or you will just get walked all over. I have never been to a TKD dojo that used double-end bags, speed bags, or developed any real punching ability. It's no use being a good kicker, if your jammed up all the time. - footwork is more important than kicking ability. TKD is a hard style. You can usually see the kicks coming and evade. It is better (In my opinion) to hit someone with a kick they didnt see coming, than to hit them with fast, easily visible, kicks. In other words..your feet should be doing more than just moving and kicking. Stomping and many other leg techniques should be taught as basic transitional movement. The people who developed Hapkido realized this and added many new footwork techniques. There are alot of really great TKD fighters out there, capable of doing more than I'll ever be able to. I did not post this to start an argument, it is simply my opinion.
