Default The martial aspect of TKD revitalized?

Taekwondo has been seeing a dangerous trend recently. Although TKD still retains its status as a martial art, the sportive aspect is becoming too big. The martial aspect must rise again and the sportive part must dimish a little.

Do you guys think this will happen, and why? It seems to me that we are already seeing signs of this through several Korean MMA fighters. Furthermore, the critcism TKD takes these days is amazing.

Do you think the criticism that TKD receives and the influence of NHB tournaments will whip TKD back into shape, into the dangerous military martial art it once used to be?

I'm not suggesting TKD isn't martial anymore. It is, just not as much as it used to be.

Great answer. I oughta write that one down... So detailed... so articulate. Why. I've never seen anything like it! It's a miracle!!!!

Care to explain your "not really", kid, instead of just saying "not really"?

Heh. Same old retarded answers. You didn't ask for a descriptive opinion you dumbass. Next time ask for one then I can give you one. Other than that I'm not wasting my time assuming you want one.

Well you obviously know nothing about this life. Insults aren't a good thing and you used them on almost every post of yours on KDH/tkd_person and probably on this one since everyone knows its you now. You say how people are so hostile yet your the one calling us jackasses, dumbasses etc.
And to answer your question, NHB wont get TKD back into shape. TKD will get back TKD into shape and I think thats the only way. Figure it out...

But do you think we will see more TKD in fight tournaments? I think we are already beginning to as more and more Koreans start to use it in the MMA arena. Likewise, the Chinese will bring in their kungfu. The Chinese and Koreans are recent entrants into the world of MMA.

There's something I've got to say here. Over the past couple of months just about every single post that you have written seems to either be about you validating your practice of Taekwondo or to seek other peoples' validation of that practice. Regardless of what anyone on this forum says to you whether it is negative or positive will not give you what you are looking for. These are telltale signs of someone who lacks self confidence.

You have to start answering your own questions and the only way you can do that is to get out there and train. You've said before that you were a blackbelt in TKD so you at least understand the basics of that art. Start looking into other things like Muay Thai or Boxing or BJJ of any other Martial art of Fighting art that suits your fancy and stay with it a couple of years.

I meant changing their training itself, like allowing kicks to legs, full contact sparring, add striking to the face and the whole lot. If you practice TKD and you only hit kicks above the waist and hardly ever punch, hows that gonna help in NHB tournaments, you have to findyourself a training partner and perhaps cross train so you can practice for NHB tournaments in particular.

Maxx, I'm not trying to validate anything. I just want some opinions. As a junior in high school, I'm up to my head in homwork, projects, exams, etc etc. I do not have the luxury of trying out different martial arts as I see fit. I am just trying to get as many opinions before quitting TKD or adding another art.

I just want to know if TKD is worth doing. I understand things like Muay Thai are more "real". But that doesn't make TKD ineffective, right? I just want to know if TKD is a good fighting style, although it is, on the whole, weaker than MT.

i probably shouldn't bother but i'm going to try one more time.

It is not the art, it is the person.

TKD will not make you a good fighter,
BJJ will not make you a good fighter
MT will not make you a good fighter.

You may you a good fighter, each system give you tools. Some tools may work well for you, some may not.

On any given day a person of one style will be able to beat a person of another style assuming sufficient training.

Somebody that knows all three and can blend them is much more dangerous than someone who only knows one of them. still you could train in all three and still be a lousy fighter.

You could train in one of them and be a great fighter.

(p.s. your fate on the boards is out of my hands I don't do the banning.)

Excessive couldn't have hit the nail harder! Training hard is the only answer, no if ands or buts!
