In fact, Taekwondo's roots are a Jitsu. Example: Before Karate introduced on a large scale in Japan during the 1920's, it existed in Okinawa for hundreds of years before as TO-TE JITSU. The Chinese characters that translate into the Okinawan language as "To-te Jitsu", also Translate into the Japanese language as Karate Jitsu, and into the Korean language as Tang Soo Sool, I believe. I thought jitsu was the equivalent of yishu (art) in Chinese.

truth, reality, sincerity, things of that nature
'art' as considered here would be the aforementioned 'jutsu' pronounciation

Some sites stated that JuJitsu is a western spelling of the proper JuJutsu. The Kanji, 柔術, is close to both. It is not purely Jutsu, or Jitsu, but something inbetween. However, it seems that JuJutsu is more proper given it's popular use among Japanese. Alcohol |

I have used it a few times. Both times it was over something stupid and both times I was able to end the situation quickly.I stuck to low roundhouses, mid level straight thrust kicks, palm strikes and, believe it or not, double outer forearm blocks. If you hold them a bit higher and closer in than normal, they are great for blocking successive roundhouse punches while keeping your hands in a good position to counter with a straight shot down the pipe. Kinda like the peek-a-boo guard in boxing. |
