Hi!
I just read on Yahoo!news that North Korea is considering to unite with South Korea in the 2014 Olympics as an apology for the nuclear bombings.
Now I want to know what will happen with ITF and WTF due to this...
If North and South Korea unite, even for the olympics, isn't that a step towards tong-il?
Lindz

*blushes furiously* oh, i didn't know that the summer olympics and the winter olympics are in different years... i thought that they were the same...my bad... yeah, but still, its good to know. besides that (sorry!) does this mean that north and south korea will unite for other olympics(like the summer ones) because they are dicussing uniting as a team for this one...

I recently read I believe in taekwondo times magazine that ITF and WTF are in fact joining organizations. How much to the extent and what exactly does that mean, the magazine only said to improve the qualiity of tae kwon do worldwide.
Hmmm it'll be interesting nonetheless

North Korea is starving... but I don't see the political elite giving up anything either. But it will be good for the people!

Remember, the WTF is NOT a style. The WTF is just a tournament committee. Kukkiwon is the style. Currently the WTF only accepts the Kukkiwon's "Shihap Kyorugi" as it's sole sparring event. This is the 17th type of sparring found in the Kukkiwon curriculum, and the only one that allows knockout. This is going to change when the WTF accepts ITF sparring too. The Kukkiwon sparring curriculum also contains ITF competition sparring, so WTF competitors will be able to easily compete in such an event, considering that most WTF competitors are from Kukkiwon based schools. However, ITF competitors have no experience in Shihap Kyorugi and will find it difficult to keep up. This will not merge techniques as many ITF people on this board think. What it will do is open all Official ITF events up to WTF competitors, as ITF has been traditional closed to WTF competitors. It will also open up ITF to governance by the IOC and it's National Olympic Committees, and for many in the ITF this will be worse than having WTF competitors fighting in ITF events. Are you sure you want this to happen? Alcohol |
