Why is it that when some people do a turning (roundhouse) kick that their feet are "floopy" and they end up not keeping their foot inline with the leg, thus kicking with the toes???
I think that it has something to do with the muscles in the front of the calf, and that FFS (floppy foot syndrome, lol) can be prevented with calf raisers (an exercise when you go up on tiptoes, and back down, strengthing the calf muscles.), but I was wondering if anyone else has seen this before, and has found ways to prevent it.

students do this all the time. FFS is normal.
How to prevent it. Beat your students when ever they try to pass off FFS as a proper kick.

If your must use force, make it excessive, right??? No, I can't...some of them are white belts, you can't pick on white belts unless they are really really annoying.

The point he's making is to enforce good form with negative reinforcement. If they mess up, drop and make em do pushups.

No you don't need to pick on them.
What I'm suggesting is people live up or down to your expectations. Do not accept it and they will stop doing it. Reward with praise those that do it correctly. And correct those who do it incorrectly. Or tell them to kick the pads really hard for 20 minutes every class and they will learn for themselves that they need to change something.

That's what you are the instructor for!
You tell, you demonstrate, you correct, rinse, repeat, puke coat hangers, repeat again, bang head into wall, repeat, get drunk, start over the next day. Every time, every kick: toes back, you'll be hitting the target with... No picking on the White Belts, they have enough trouble sorting out what goes where, just show them the correct way, over and over again. Higher Belts...past Yellow, that is another story! ![]()

)You just have to stick with the steps leading up to it. Too bad we don't have 20 minutes nor enough bags to have the worst offenders work it out... But in reality, it starts with the stretches!

Sometimes we have 30 kids in one class and only 4 bags, not counting the mini one for the little people.
But we make our rounds through the rows with targets during class and correct them...as much as possible...

I only work with two or three kids at a time and we use the handheld pads...and if there is like 30000 little tykes running around, we divide them by belt rank so they are able to get to kick the pad...
